I just got a 05 4runner SR5 4x2. I am fairly new to the off-road scene and I need as much advice as possible. First does anyone know any trails in VA that I could go on with no problem in my completely stock 4runner. And also can anyone recommend a good tire that I could upgrade to. Thanks.

First advice, take it back and get 4x4. :bash: :jk:

As far as tires there are so many choices. Duratracs, terra grapplers, revos. Just search around on here and youll find alot of good info. Personally i have Michelin Lattitudes for daily use and am getting a set of bfg km2s for offroading.

I just purchased duratrac's, gotta say I was surprised, they ride very very well, better than my michellin cross terrains, and they look great, they do hum, don't let anyone tell you they wont, they are great tires in my opinion so far. hope this helps some, good luck and enjoy the endless projects you'll partake in.

yeah I have been looking for awhile to find a 4x4 but for some reason I couldn't find one. I will prob end up doing a swap in the future. i have heard that the cross terains are a good tire. Do you think that even with it being a 4x2 that I will be able to do moderate off-roading?Thanks for the help

I also have 2WD and I am looking to swap with 4WD. Thats the reason I didnot spend any $$ on my 4R other than routine maintenance, still running stock tires. In my opinion without any lift (that too on a 2WD) the options to off-road are limited as they have much lesser clearance than stock 3rd Gen. So along with tires, you might look into getting some lift DS2.5/1.5 is very economical option.lll:boink:

yea i would just wait and find a 4x4. i didnt on my old 4runenr, and blew 4k on it, before finally getting a 4x4. its an addiction and making a 2wd more offroad worthy will only make you crave 4wd all the more. just my advice, even a stock 4wd is more fun then a lifted 2wd. i know

I've put about 60k miles on my CrossTerrains and I like them a lot. But they are a highway biased tire. They are not aggressive in any way.

Moderate off-roading in a 2WD 4Runner with a highway tire? No. Not unless you like getting stuck.

I wouldn't bother getting new tires for your 4Runner. Trade it on a 4WD 4Runner.
