Need new front disc pads?

I'm close to needing new front Disc Brake Pads. Does anyone know the Toyota part # for a 2010 SR5? Has anyone had any better luck with aftermarket pads? I have 18,000 miles on the original pads and that seems a little fast to be almost worn. The pads are down to about 5/32 now.

That does seem rather premature for wear.....my wife's Ridgeline has 72,000 on the original pads and she SLAMS those brakes. Something's not right.
 
Unless you are using it for a taxi in downtown NYC there is a problem. I have 40K with over 1/2 pad left on my 4Runner. Did YOU check it or did a local shop check it and tell you the wear?
 
I have to agree, seems like either bad information or a problem with the 4R. I was still well within the green at around 16k with 95% local town/city driving. I think you need a 2nd opinion!
 
Holy moley! 18,000 miles and your already having problems with the pads?!

Do you mud or anything? Something could have gotten into your caliper and scratched up your rotors and then wore your pads abnormally. That is a problem. So early in the game with your truck, I almost hate saying this, but take it back to the dealership.

Have them look at it, if its their fault, fight with them.
If Its your fault, nicely go home, order rotors/pads from a local automotive shop, i.e. AutoZone, O'Reillys, AdvanceAutoParts and get them. They will be so much cheaper and you can use promo codes online.

I had the truck in to Toyota awhile back because the truck felt like it was getting a pulsating in the brake pedal when I hit the brakes but of course Toyota says it's normal. I also am getting a little vibrating in the steering wheel lately. I have Pro comp 17x8" rims with the stock Duellers.

Your new rims wouldn't cause these problems unless installed incorrectly, for instance, not all the way tightened or balanced correctly.

Do you experience vibrating in your steering wheel ALL the time? Or is it only when braking?

Well, don't wait until 1 mm of thickness to go change them. At 1 mm you are transferring a lot of heat to the rotor. I would change them once they get around 2.5 mm.

I am going to shoot out some rough estimates, but the factory pads offer more padding than aftermarket at time, so their roughly between 10mm and 12mm.

Check both front brakes. Sounds like you could have had a caliper frozen and wore down the pads by lightly being engaged. Good luck.
 
Maybe your wife is riding the brakes all the time and you do not know it. If she drives it make sure see keeps her foot of the brake pedal unless braking.

Rims have been on for 1-1/2 years. the shaking in the steering wheel happens around 60MPH and not on all roads.

That is odd. It almost sounds like the tires weren't balanced properly, but you've had them on for 1.5 years. Sometimes the weights fall off the rim, but unlikely. You also said it was on certain roads. Is there no way that it is possibly just the road your on, maybe bumpy? Haha, I am not trying to insult your intelligence, just a factor.
 
Honestly it sounds like one of your front tires aren't properly balanced. You can determine this by if you notice a vibration at 40+ mph. Also causes premature tire balding. Look for symptoms. Also, some roads dont sound so loud as others. Your tires could always do it, but a newly pave road could amplify the sound or vibration.

Took it in to have tires balanced. 1 front tire was out of balance and all others where at 0 and needed no balancing. Seems to be okay but I haven't got it up to 60 mpg. yet. Tire shop was close to home and I haven't driven the truck since then.

I think I may have found the front brake disc pad set part number for a 2010 SR5 4Runner. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct part # for the front Brake Disc Pad set?

Mhmm, and if it didn't work, ask your tire shop if the lugs look okay. Sometimes new rims need "ET" lugs. ET meaning extended thread, need longer lugs to connect tighter. I have ET lugs for my truck, and dont let a tire place tell you that you need them in the rear as well. ET lugs are usually only needed in the front with your disc brakes.
 
Brake Pads

Why do state ET lugs not needed for rear? If you have an older model that has drum brakes in rear and pads in front....yes. But most newer models have disc brakes on all four wheels.
