Need new tires: suggestions?

S p a r k y

told you coopers are the best LoL

Ha, I was trying to respond to your KO post last night, but the boy woke up screaming bloody murder, so i never finished. I was going to say!

I think if you got bfg at kos, it would be the last tire you buy in the next 5 years. They will rot before you wear them out. I have customers getting 75k + out of a set. These tires are one of those brands once you get one set you're hooked. I have customers ordering a set for each and every truck they buy.

Those things are pieces of JUNK, you even admit they dry rot! Wow why waste money of something that dry rots!! Worst tire EVA!!!

Huh? It is one of the best selling tires out there, and has been for years....:first:

AT3's!!!!!!!!!!!! #1

"My old mastercraft AT's are the best!!!" Funny thing about this statement, i liked my mastercraft's better than my Falkens

If i didn't get Dura's, KO's and AT2's were top choice. As i am sure you have seen many times, gshadow325 we like to really pick on the AT3's and how people talk about KO's rotting after 100 years!

momo.75 i really like my at ko's, they are phenomenal in the snow, wet and mud. Best $240 for the set i ever spent. yes they will probably dry rot before they wear out!
S p a r k y and I like to bust on coopers not because they are a bad tire. it because its a decent value priced tire that fits a budget and need. When coopers are compared to the BFG AT KOs, some people feel that the coopers are better. Its a matter of opinion. when mine wear out, its going to be tough to buy something else when you know these are so darn good.

You do realize you could have had 14 sets of AT3's for $240!!

Only 14 sets, well I got a Internet coupon, and loyalty points, and forum member preferred points and a super secret no one can get it besides me rebate that costs me $3.50 a set. I also use a special calculator abacus, so my math is better than yours.

You do know that Mastercraft tires are made by Cooper!!!

You know nitto is made by toyo right? Lexus is made by Toyota?

It doesn't matter, it doesn't mean they are constructed out of the same materials and compound.

Cooper also moved manufacturing to China. Just throwing out random facts to confuse everyone lol

Cooper just pulled out if deal to become an India owned company. I believe it was Apollo Tire of India that was going to buy Cooper. Deal fell apart in December. I wouldn't be surprized if Cooper is no longer US owned in the next couple years.

I used to buy coopers when I was right out of college and didn't have any money. You get what you pay for. Cooper is also one of the largest manufacturers of private label tires so you will see the same tire with many different names.

Um WRONG....Cooper has OPENED new plants in China to start selling in the Asian market. Cooper still has plants in the US, Europe and Mexico. Those plants are still operational.

Mastercraft tires are just cheaper versions of Cooper. They are NOT a separate division like Toyota is to Lexus. There is no separate manufacturing plants for Mastercraft tires.

In 2006 Cooper acquired a 51% stake in a Chinese tire company which is now Cooper Changshan.

There are a lot of tires made there, but they will be labeled as Made in China, not Made in USA like the AT3's I have seen.

I've never had a problem with Coopers. I can afford any tire I want. Just because a tire is more expensive doesn't mean it's better. I use to buy Michelins..but I find the Coopers to be just as good...last as long...and cheaper. I have no problem getting 50-60 thousand miles on my Coopers. About the same for the Michelins.

Coopers car tires are a different story. I find Michelin car tires to be far superior to Coopers.

Well, way to open Pandora's Box...

Whatever tire you go with - Cooper AT3 is very highly rated, as is Toyo OC AT2, Firestone, etc. - DO NOT buy the Wrangler SR-As. Worthless, overpriced hunks of shit. Jeep used them as standard for years for god knows what reason. Think my father got a whopping 20k out of his original set with regular rotation.

I'm down to either the Coopers or the Toyos. As said above, lots of great options, just more about what you prefer. I like the Toyos because of the 65k treadlife warranty. Both are similar tread pattern, weight, etc.

Hey guys im in need of some new tires and thinking ill spend a little tax return money.

Im looking for a 265-70-17, I have a daystar 2.5/1.5 lift on it. I don't offroad, just looking for a decent looking/cost efficient tire that is good on highway/rain/snow.

any thoughts on this? Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct(im liking the 50k mile warranty and price)

Anyone know of any good deals going on at the moment for decent tires?

Thanks

If offroad is not a concern, have a look at Michelin's LTX M/S II. We put them on my wife's '08 a few months back. Not a cheap tire but, quieter and better handling than stock, especially in the rain. It and it's predecessor are probably the best tire I've ever driven on a truck in the rain with both my former 93 Ford Exploder and her '08 4Runner. Wife also gets good fuel economy with it...she averages 20-22 mpg overall. Expect 50,000 miles or more if you drive them right.

FWIW, my experience with all-terrain tires is that they aren't quite as good as a tire designed primarily for the highway tire in the rain. I've run BFG, Nitto, Toyo, Goodyear, Cooper, Hankook, Pro Comp et al over the last fifteen years because I usually end up putting 40-50,000 miles on my vehicles annually. Most all of them make decent tires for daily drivers but, if you don't do off-road, you're probably better off with a highway tire and will benefit from a quieter ride and slightly better fuel economy. There is one tire I'll call out from personal experience as the second worst tire I've ever owned after Firestone's Wilderness A/T that used to come on the Ford Explorer.

As much as everyone loves Nitto Terra Grapplers, my experience with them left me itching to burn them off my '03 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 in 2008. Once I wore them out, I never looked back. For 38,000 miles, the truck felt like it was cornering on wet diapers. It had OK grip in a straight line and handled sand very well. Mud, real mud, not so much but, that's true of most all-terrains. But that whole soft/wobbly sidewall thing just wasn't cool. If it at least leaned consistently, I could deal but the truck just never, ever drove right through anything but the slowest and gentlest turns with Nitto Terra Grapplers on it and I've refused to even consider Nittos for anything else as a result. Your mileage may vary.

DO NOT buy the Wrangler SR-As

I've owned 4 different sets of Wranglers over the years....At best I got 35k out of them. Stopped buying them because they just were NOT a very long lasting tire.

If offroad is not a concern, have a look at Michelin's LTX M/S II

I've owned two sets of these tires...and a set of the Michelin Cross Terrain. Both were excellent tires. But I find the Coopers to be at least as good in all conditions. The Coopers AT3's are the best tire I ever owned in for wet weather driving. The Michelins Cross Terrain were a close second.

I run the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S on my 2007. Love them, had no issues. Great tire for damn near every condition except serious rock crawlin.

Well well well guess ill throw myself in here

Hate Nittos --look great but are heavy

I've run them all it seems or even install them
