need some info about automatics (before I buy)

Looking @ an 88 4runner with no motor, auto trans...

What all is needed to put my motor (out of a 89 standard trans T4R) into that 4runner..... I know it needs the torque converter/flex plate & probably the starter..... But what else should I bee looking to make sure is there? & yes Im going to keep it auto...

Ive only owned 2 automatic cars in my life & that was back in the early 90's & the other I kept for less than 6 months.. never swapped one or even helped with one. So any additional info would be greatly appreciated.


On a side note..... the T4R is striped plane jane model. Is there an easy way to convert/swap it to power windows, locks, mirrors? Still have my fully loaded SR5 for donor parts if its possible to swap them in.

I'd try to get a parts diagram for both and see what part numbers might be different. ECU? Pilot Bearing not needed on an auto? Kick down Cable on the motor. Linkage mounting points and odd brackets. Got any local friends with the same vehicle you can ask for a visual inspection and comparison?

No... Don't know anyone here with same vehicle....

suppose to go look at the 4runner tomorrow. Just wish I knew what to look for.... Price is reasonable, But If i have to spend roughly $300 on a torque converter/flex plate + starter... & a couple hundred more on lots of little BS, then it wont be a good deal!
