Need Some Input Re: Recovery strap

I am very new to the off-roading scene and I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction. I am looking to buy a rope, or strap, or chain, I don't even know what they're called, to keep in my 4Runner in case I ever need to be pulled out or I need to pull someone else out. Cost is not really a constraint. I'm pretty embarassed to ask this question, but I definitely appreciate any and all input. Thanks.

I did a Google search and I found a "snatch strap" made by ARB. It was like $70 if I recall correctly. The only question I have is, how does it attached to the vehicle of it has loops instead of hooks?

Wow, there's a ton of information at this site! However, it looks like the information relating to this topic is covered at the very end in the section titled "Towing and Yanking vehicles for recovery." (in case time doesnt permit reading the entire page at this point)

I have a similar question, and I've read through a lot of the info on recovery, but I guess I'm missing something that must be obvious to others.

So if I'm being pulled from the back, I can attach the recovery strap to a receiver shackle in the tow hitch. Ok, makes sense.

Now for the front, I have two stout looking closed hoops on the front of my 4runner. If I am being pulled from the front, do I attach to these, and how? I know a knot is very bad, and a loop through can only be done on one end. Do I use a d-ring shackle to attach a recovery strap to one of these? There is one of these hoops on the back left too, can I use a d-ring shackle to attach a strap to this instead of the receiver shackle in the tow hitch? Thanks!

most hard ware stores carry them, just make sure they are rated to about 1 or 2 tons, dont get small ones - use the D shackle to attach the snach or heavy chain to the truck
