Need Suggestions on Replacing my whole Set Up

I have an 05 SportEdition that is Non-JBL and I am wanting something that will be compatible with my iPhone and my stearing wheel controls. I don't want to "thump" really hard or anything, I am just looking for something that sounds a lot better. I want a double din head unit, something that looks clean and not incredibly aftermarket. I have a JBL amp and a 10" sub from my previous car and thought about putting that in there but I don't know where to put it. It would be awesome if I could hide everything somehow. As for speakers.... I have no idea what to do here. I don't want to spend more than $1,000 for my whole set up. What do you think?

Do you think if I left out the amp and sub and just replaced the head unit with a Scion one and put in new speakers it would sound good? And which Scion HU is the best?

It's hard to say what you would be happy with.

I would definitely start with a new headunit.

If you get new speakers you should probably amp them. If you don't care about bass then I wouldn't even worry about a sub.

I thought the amp was to power the sub? If you have speakers and then add an amp it will still make it sound better?

Subs do require amp power.

Speakers are also made to have power going to them. Most aftermarket speakers are designed can take more power than the stock headunit can put out.

Most sub amps are only one channel. Most speaker amps are two or four channels.

It took some major shopping but I have a little less than your budget into my system (900). I bought things from different sellers to get the best deal, but my system is comprised of....

Kenwood DDX 616 DVD touchscreen, Bluetooth Head Unit, iPod control, USB input, Aux input, Sat/HD Radio etc...

Infinity Reference Components in the front 6030cs, Infinity Reference Full range 6032cf in the rear ( 6 1/2 inch speakers front and rear ).

Infinity Reference 1300 mono channel sub amp 300 watt RMS @ 2 ohm

Infinity Reference 1062 DVC 10inch sub ( wiring in parallel for 2 ohms resistance)

Infinity Reference 475 4 channel amp for the door speakers 90w RMS @ 2ohm

With online orders I avoided taxes ;and shipping was either free or next to nothing. I did the installation myself and saved big time. I am about to finish the sub/amps install in a couple days.

This system if bought from a box store installed would probably be 2000 or more easily.

So long story short, You can get a killer system for your budget....but you are going to have to be very frugal in your shopping!
