I replaced my 05 exhaust that rusted out with oem. I didn't really see a need to replace with aftermarket in my case.

How much did that cost you? I paid around $350 for the Gibson stainless catback and I'm guessing going OEM is around that or even more expensive. Might as well make the 4Runner sound better.

Which model kit did you go with? According to the Gibson site there isn’t one for the 03 4runner?

To be honest I am not sure as I had other work done at the same time and this was back in 2011/2012 it looks like that I replaced everything. I can try to dig out the receipts but yes I can guarantee I was higher than the Gibson. I wasn't looking to change the sound as I am happy with how it sounds. I don't need a fart cannon on the truck (not saying the Gibson is, just implying I am happy with the sound of the OEM).

How is the flange connecting the header to the catback system? I know I'm going to be replacing my system here soon but I'm worried about getting the old system off and having something to bolt the new one on to.... Mine is so rusted it looks like a solid piece which is slowly flaking away..

Just two bolts, one of the flanges has threaded portions on it and if those are bad, you can just use two nuts.
I can confirm that 618815 fits the 03' V8. The 6 in front refers to the stainless model, which I would recommend since you live in the rust belt, their other model is just aluminized crap. 618815 is the updated item # for 618707. There's also another model that's out there, I believe it's 618708 and that does not fit an 03', the header pipe is too short and it's probably made for an 05+.

That's exactly the reason i put oem on mine. I was originally in Philadelphia and the Northeast where everything under the vehicle rusted to crap. I live in Vegas now and over the years slowly replaced everything under there that rusted. The oem stuff lasted way longer than i expected given the circumstances do i was more than happy to put oem back on since i wasn't looking for upgraded.

I just installed a new Gibson 618815B. I went with the Gibson stainless because I'm up in WI and heard that the Walker replacement muffler rusts easily. It was easy to install and looks great. I would recommend if you want to replace most of your exhaust.

The only reason you'd want to replace is if they are broken or if you want to do a performance upgrade.

Any exhaust is fine. It's the drone/ sound. Borla and magnaflow makes good stuff. If your in the area with alot of rust from salt, go stainless steel. The smaller the muffler, the louder it is. Borla is quiet but it do cost. Magnaflow is a good choice too.
