Needing a Radiator

in the market for a new radiator, it heats up when working hard off road going slow, not on the highway though.

so, Rock Auto has a NISSENS Part # 647551 for 175$, i couldn't find any Koyo's on their site, and only a few on eBay, i'd actualy prefer an all aluminum but those are apparently a rumor....

any thoughts on the NISSENS ?

Since it heats up when going slow you might want to check your fan clutch.

No experience here with Nissens. Sorry.

If I was going to buy a radiator now I'd get a Denso. I found them on Amazon for a good price a while back. My Koyo has been fine as well.
 
i was thinking the same about the fan clutch too, especially considering the almost 250k miles on her....

but the fan can be heard pulling A TON of air @ start-up, and when the A/C is on. I replaced the radiator with a NAPA radiator ~5 years ago and it was obviously NOT the quality of the Original radiator.... (i don't remember the brand, i was in a pinch and needed it ASAP) so i'm inclined to think it's the radiator not circulating well....

Yes, I'd check the fan and make sure it is turning and pulling air after it warms up.

errrrr, Done?

The A/C radiator heats up the air in front of the engine radiator and the fan starts sucking more air through it is what it sounds like ..... that is it sounds like it's sucking more air too my ears

i read that but haven't done the "smoke test" yet.... as i still feel like re-heated dog shit.... (nasty cold virus)

so i read that somebody determined their radiator was to blame by inside Aluminium portion was cold and the outside (plastic on mine now) was warm. Is that a fairly accurate "gauge"? i'd think the Aluminum part should cool much faster then the plastic because it's designed to dissipate heat....??

well my brain has worked enough today, thanks for the input! :der:
 
So after towing a trailer loaded with camping stuff / motorcycle, about ~1k pounds of stuff, i was overheating on the freeway.

So i'm positive it's the Radiator.



anyone have good / bad things to say about a 'Vista-Pro Ready Rad' radiator, a dual core:

they have an all metal one, but @ 400+ dollars and no trans cooler it doesn't sound like a good idea.
 
I'm looking for one as well, at Camelback Toyota an OEM radiator was right around 200 bucks I believe. Usually free shipping too.
 
well it turns out i have a Spectra single core radiator (the only thing i could get fast from NAPA at the time) so that explains allot of my cooling issues!

So i ordered the 'Vista-Pro Ready Rad' 2 core from Summit, hopefully it'll be here soon as it's summer and things are warming up quickly!!!!

I was seriously considering THIS BEAST from summit:

price was high, but if it had a auto-trans cooler, i would have bought it to not have to worry about this again! they have an all aluminium / brass one with a trans cooler, but it's only a dual core & @ 549$ their wasn't much improvement. So this was second best.... hopefully good enough!!!

I have a plastic one in right now, not sure which brand but that thing stays hot. My engine compartment gets very hot compared to other vehicles I've had yet doesn't register on the temp gauge???? I'm tearing everything out and replacing a lot in the next month, I guess I'll be walking to work for a couple weeks!

Interesting.... i'm suspicious of the lack of detail in the parts description like "Core ?" also it doesn't say anywhere "genuine Toyota" or anything.... if it's a true all Aluminium Rad that's a hell of a deal man! i suspect it's not though, probably a plastic sided re-man of the OEM specifications. please post back if you find out it IS an OEM Toyota, i'll return the one i ordered for an OEM radiator in a heartbeat.

you would have been very unhappy with "the Beast" because it is for toyota pickups running small block chevy engines:music: and the core thickness is the same as the first one you posted. I was glad to see a 2 row core and have bookmarked it for the future. thanks

Glad i could help! My middle name should be "retro-fit"! yeah i saw it was for a small block, that's why i knew it could keep my 3.4 cool! i'd love to do a small block mod but i have to deal with DEQ in my region, and i don't think a V8 could ever pass because my VIN says i have a V6....

update: This radiator was about twice as thick as the OEM replacement (imagine that a 2 core twice as thick! :caked:) so i had to get longer Radiator mounting and Fan Shroud bolts (8$ later) it's mounted and not leaking anything so far!

She has been crawling around the city with the A/C cranked and the temp hasn't bugged! the Trans temp is steady just under 180 degree's! So sometime soon i'll take her for a off road adventure to verify all is well, but so far so good!
