Nerf Bars Installed!

I guess I should have kept my mouth shut. I woke up this morning and the tracking info was in my email. They are on time with a scheduled delivery of July 1st. I sure hope they look good on a Black SR5.

Couldn't wait, so I decided to install this evening. Wasn't bad at all. My first bar I noticed was a bit "in" in the back, so after loosening everything and realigning, it was fine. Second one went on just fine. Pics later

Got the Stainless Nerf Bars this afternoon and installed them this evening. Install only took an hour or so with two of us wrenching, and the verdict is they look pretty sweet! Pretty happy so far. I will post some pics tomorrow or so.

Yeah no doubt! Waiting suuuuucks! It was definatly worth it though. Now I just need to find more stuff to put on it. Debating on whether or not to put the mud guards on.

I ordered mine from TruckXL - got a phone call to let me know that they were on backorder and gave me the option to wait or cancel. I picked wait and they arrived Wednesday. It took me about 2 hours, 20 minutes start to finish - with a couple of breaks to do something else.

I'll have to post pics - anyway stainless on a Blizzard Pearl SR5 looks great. Or as my 6-year old says AAAWWWEEESOME!

Are these the Steelcraft nerf bars?

Which nerf bars are more rigid and more well made, the Westin's or the Steelcraft's? The latter are $50 cheaper or so.

I've never used or seen the Westin's, so I couldn't compare, but I really like my Steelcraft 3" nerf bars. They're pretty solid, do have a slight amount of give when I step on them (@ 265 lbs, everything flexes! *SAD PANDA*). Then again, it could just be that the car sways a little to the side when I step in.

You can't go wrong with the Steelcrafts IMHO.

Thanks for the input! As long as they don't creak when you get in they are probably not bending. I like the price on this upgrade.

You're right, the bars don't creak when even someone my size gets in, but the car does seem to sway a bit more when I use the nerf bars since the nerf bars stand out from the car a few inches as compared with the door step area (longer lever arm, same force, for all you phyics junkies)! I think there's also a little bit of give by the nerf bars -- in the same way that the car sways relative to the ground, the nerf bars, for someone my size, seems to sway a little bit relative to the car.

Quick installation overview: The nuts of two fasteners of each side of the car need to be removed. The Steelcraft mounting hardware sits snug onto the fastener (the four bolts, two on each side, are fairly long) and the original nut is used to keep the mounting hardware on. I'm not sure how the Westin's work, but I'm guessing it's pretty similar.

If you have a torque wrench, I would ask the Toyota guys how tight these fasteners should be tightened as these are among the fasteners which fasten the body to the frame. Else, do as I did and make a puppy dog face to the Toyota service guys at your purchasing dealer and have 'em check the torque setting.

You won't be disappointed with the Steelcraft bars! They rock! Which color option are you going for?

Thanks for the hardware tips, I will be sure to lay everything out and examine it before jumping to the bolt on. I have 2 torque wrenches but the Inch-Lb one will be maxxed out I am sure. I will use a standard torque chart based on fastener diameter and hope for the best. Re-torque in a few weeks etc.

Just purchased the black bars for a Magnetic Gray SR5. Trying to keep down on the shiny bits. My wife has a little trouble getting in and out and even I will make use of them.

Cool! I didn't realize there was a standard chart for torque settings as a function of fastener diameter. My gf and mom were adamant about the nerf bars -- my mom literally had to climb in . Good luck with the install! =)

Anyone else have pics to show? I installed mine a few months ago and I'm still happy with them. They do tend to get dirty and that ends up on the shins of my slacks when I get my daughter in and out of her carseat.

For those of you that have had Steelcraft nerf bars for a while, have you had any problems with rust?

Are there any good or bad nerfs to watch out for?

I bought the Steelcraft bars but I'm having some trouble getting the body mounting bolts off to do the install. Did you guys have the same trouble? I'm a rookie and am a little scared messing with the bolts that are holding the body on

WD40 help? Any special tools that I ought to be using?

I found a really good deal locally, but I wanna know if they will fit my tundra?

The Tundra and 4Runner do not share the same frame, so it seems unlikely that the 4Runner nerf bars would mount correctly on the Tundra.
