Yesterday, I bought my first non-German vehicle, a new 2014 4runner sr5. I really love it so far. In a few weeks, my wife and I are taking a beach trip and taking our 3 dogs. I am looking for a way to make the rear COMPLETELY pet proof. I'm talkin no scratches or drool on anything. I also need to confine them to the back. What options do I have? This is my first non-coupe vehicle so I'm clueless. I don't want them to be able to so much as look at anything they could possibly mess up back there, haha. Any suggestions?

We have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks. If you aren't familiar with them, they are rather large dogs. We don't have kids so the back seats are almost always down.
Anyway, we have seat covers for front and rear. We were going to get Wet Okoles. Ive had them before, they are excellent, but pricey. We decided to get CalTrend NeoSupreme covers. They are highly recommended, and decently cheaper than Wet Okoles.
For the rear, we have a Kurgo Cargo Cape. We love it. Water resistant, covers all the back (no wall coverage). We were going to get a CargoLiner, made specifically for the vehicle, but the Kurgo is awesome and half the price.

Canvasback is an awesome brand. High quality, fit to your vehicle....but it comes with a price.
I would look at that price, and compare to Kurgo Cargo Cape. If you are ok with the price and want the perfect fit -> go with Canvasback
If you want to save about half the cost, and get an amazing quality, fully functional, almost perfect fit -> Kurgo.

If you truly feel this way about your cargo area then do what I do with my 3 Beagles; Don't let them back there.
Dogs are dogs. They are gonna scratch and drool and shed and that's that.

Kennel or you get drool on: Windows, door handles, plastic around windows, carpet, tailgate, etc. OR you could just have a dog like mine and it just sleeps the whole time in the back seat with no drool anywhere. Takes up the whole back seat though and we do use a blanket lol.
a cheap blanket or train your dog well. i have an irish wolfhound that barely fits in there and she sits when i tell her too. still sheds a lot but she is tall enough she doesn't have to climb to stick her head out the window. just leave your rear window down/cracked and they won't have a reason to climb the faux leather sides on the doors.

My German Shepherd goes with me all the time in the 4Runner. I have 3 bed spreads that I rotate out for cleaning every couple of trips. He sheds quite a bit, so I vacuum my T4R at least once a week. I do get nose prints on the back window, but other than that, he doesn't do much damage. Of course, he's probably too big to try to jump into the back seat, but I could see that could be a problem with smaller dogs.
When I got my T4R, I just decided this was my life style vehicle that is meant for fun... and that means my dog goes with me for lots of weekend activities. I just figure constant cleaning is a small price to pay.
