Just got back from the dealership and noticed a port/hole near the shifter right above the "P". It looks like it should have a cover on it but it's just open. Anyone know what this is? Is it supposed to be open like that?
New 2014 4Runner part missing?

Yes, there should be a piece there. if its missing, the dealer needs to replace it. It covers the shift lock release
mechanism.

It's there so you can move the shifter out of park without the key in the ignition, in case of an emergency. You can do that with a screwdriver even with the cover on FWIW...

Damn, who ever is doing your guy's PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) is just doing a crap job!
That's the first thing I install when I get the new cars from the lot. It comes in a bit plastic bag attached to the shifter!
Anyways, yeah its to cover the ugly looking shift lock override button. You use that if there's an issue where the vehicle cannot be shifted into park conventionally (i.e. the battery is dead, ignition doesn't work, ignition lock override doesn't work, ect)

Found it in the glove box in a little plastic bag! Will post pics of the new '14 red trail soon
