Very impressive but I agree it seems if you got the same improvement in the low beams you would be a hazard on the road. Can you take a head on/3/4 shot to show the color (might not work well with a cell phone camera)

Here you go, It's the best I could do with the phone camera, but they are a true 5000K (pure white). I don't see any blue in there.

Well from the pictures I like what I am seeing, never been impressed with the stock headlights but have driven much worse (older cars) and so its not a real priority or worth the hassle of an HID retrofit. Used silverstars in my Old truck for a while but other then being slightly brighter and more white colored I found them over priced and short life I will have too look up total cost and if there is any warranty (concerns about the heat creating killing the bulbs prematurely......butin -13 out today won't be a problem till summer )

Edit: Just checked the price....for that amount I am glad they seem to perform well

New vled Led's are in the high beams, yes. Yes both headlights are on. The low beams are plasmaglow 5000k 2800lm bulbs.

It looks to me like the optics changed quite a bit. In the before pic, the hotspot is higher up closer to the bushes. In the after pic it looks like youve got a big circular blob of light closer to the truck, which will hinder your distance vision at night

Agreed, but I already had my headlights angled too far down (which I did after lifting) so I fixed that after taking the pictures.

nevetsvsx, did you happen to play around with the adjustment collar to see how wide/narrow you can get the beam to adjust? From your before/after photos, it looks like the light is much more dispersed, as you can now see the bush to the right, as well as the trees straight ahead (and that dead one to the right and way back there!)!

Was wondering if you adjusted the "filament" in/out to narrow the beam a bit. If that's possible, I would suspect a bit further reach and even higher output in the narrowed beam!

And, on a related point, unless anyone here has driven a pos Dodge Durango (2000 model), you have no idea what "crappy lighting" really is! I swear, that damned vehicle had the worst headlights I've ever seen! At 40mph on an unlit highway, I felt like I was driving blind! It was so bad that I installed PIAA 510 driving lights, and those puny rounds made the headlights look like parking lights! Not even Sylvania Silverstars could make it safe for night driving!

I was considering doing HIDs in the low beam projectors and LEDs in the high beam refelctors but these may very well change my mind for the low beams. Will be patiently waiting for someone to bite the bullet and install the first set in projectors.

I think you should test them out and report back to us ... You wont know until you try! Granted these are halogen projectors but they are still projectors. If they manage to control the light properly and they are aimed properly. The brightness shouldnt be the biggest issue there.
Take a bunch of before and after output pics!!

yah, I messed with it a lot on the passenger side and figured out that horizontal is the best placement and depth didnt seem to matter too much. I didnt mess with the driver side because I started out horizontal there and am happy with the beam pattern.

I know where part of my Tax return/yearly bonus is going...

Defiantly putting these in my hi beam slots...

If no one has tried them (4500lumans) in there low beam sots at that time I will ask VLED to also send a 9005 adapter to see if they will fit in both the low and hi beam slots and see how they perform in the halogen reflector.

Even with adjustment ( angle and shroud) it is entirely possible in the low beam slot at 4500 lumans may be a bit to much for on coming traffic we will just need to see if someone else tries them in the low beam slot or wait until I order mine.



My plan is everything works out correctly

This version of LEDS
4500 lumans in hi
4500/3000 luman in low slots
and go with a 3000 or 2000 luman in the fogs ( if the bulb fan fits under the factory shroud )

YJ's have 6054 sealed beams, right? My '87 truck has the same lamps, replaced with Hella sealed beam replacements, dropped an Osram 70/65w bulb in and have no problems seeing down the road at all! Never had a flash from oncoming cars on low beams either.

The durango, I think I coulda put a 500 watt halogen in there and still not be able to see down the road! Worst design EVER!

Unfortunately, not yet. I need to snag a pair of trail headlight assemblies. I'm not too keen on doing the retrofit myself, but I was quoted like $800 for a place to do them if i supplied the parts soooo I'm gonna do them myself. I thought $800 was a bit much to take my projectors, put them in the assemblies and seal them up. Probably won't get to them until later in the year.

Alright gents (and ladies too!), I have finally retrofitted a pair of trail aftermarket head lights with my projectors and the VLED headlights. I checked their site, recently, they have a new edition. The fans are loud but over the engine, you shouldnt hear them.

They have no been installed in the truck yet, but had them out hooked up to a battery. They look good. The only issue I can see right away, is fitment. the space where the current low headlights are, is quite tiny. I am not sure these will fit. I should have them wired and set in the next coming days. The fan units are on the back of the headlight, attached to large heat sink. There is a piece of the body in the way of where the fan will probably need to be. I will have to take look at it and see what we are dealing with.

Retrofit was easy. Hardest part was getting everything back together glued in. I know it is going to be a pain to adjust these as well. I will let you all know, hopefully how it turns out. if not it going to go on the back burner for a few months.
