New 4Runner owner 2012

Just bought a 2012 CPO with 6900 miles. Black SR5, love it so far except one tire will not balance.... They replaced tires before I bought it, don't know why but I took it in today and the tech said one tire has been subjected to high load, and will not balance. He says honestly they are cheap tires! I just bought the car!
I am striving for new tires, at a minimum one replacement tire to replace the whacked up tire.

Welcome... I'm not sure if money is tight, but if you can spring for 4 new tires, do it! My first guess would have been cheap tires... 9/10 times cheap wheels, tires or both are the reason they won't balance.

Everyone on here has their personal preference on tires, but a little research and you will know what suits your needs. I ditched my oem tires immediately and sprung for a more aggressive P-series tires. I personally don't need an LT tire and I travel a ton so I kept the original size to keep my fuel economy sensible.

Thanks for your thoughts, I have considered new tires as crazy as that seems being that its new, I do plenty of freeway driving so I want a good ride as well.

What do you guys like, there are many good tires out there.

What's your driving style? highway/city, highway/dirt-road, highway/off-road. There are soo many styles of tires you can go with. Like I mentioned above I went with a more aggressive p-series tire. The road noise is slightly higher at highway speed but not enough for anyone to notice or care. If you go with an LT you are getting into a much heavier tire with a harsher ride. But if you're really into off-roading it may be the tire you want.

Something's odd about new tires on a 6900 mile vehicle. I'd not accept cheap tires. Suggest making them replace them with something good and pay the difference. All the dealers around here sell tires now. I wonder if that wheel has been damaged?

Don't know your driving needs. I have no use for AT-class tires, and I'll not put up with the weight/noise/mileage for the style. So, I have P-class Conti's and Blizzaks for winter. The Conti's and Bilsteins made a world of difference in the drive/handling for me.

That's exactly what I said..

I do a lot of freeway driving with very little off road driving so I need a good performance tire. Currently they have 265/70/17 National tires, called Courageous, I will press them being they are crappy tires. They are not even the OEM tires, go figure.

I am guessing there was a vibration the original owner dealt with. Toyota dealer probably kept balancing tires until they gave in and put on new set. Vibe still there and owner said F this and dumped it. Some issues not the tire causing the vibe that they will probably never find. My advice is to not spend a bunch of money on tires until you can be sure it is the tires. My 2000 was like that. Even after putting Michelins on it the vibe was still there no matter how many balances and tires it went through.
