New air filter with deck plate?

Is it necessary to get a new air filter for the deck plate mod? Also do any of you guys have HIDs with the mod? If so, where did you mount the ballast so it doesn't get sucked into the air box?

Nah you don't need a new air filter just because you are doing the deck-plate. Just take a look at it, and if it is dirty, go ahead and replace it.

Go OEM or Wix. OEM list is 22 bucks, Wix is 21.99 at Oreilly's, so I would go with OEM. Always good to have a backup air filter just in case.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice

I use re-usable K&N with my deckplate mod.

I was going to suggest using a K&N, as I have used them on all of my Chevy's, but I just don't feel like they are really necessary, unless you really drive a ton of miles per year. An OEM paper filter should be good for about 10-15k miles if you don't live in an overly dusty environment, and you can have issues with over-oiling the K&N and the MAF sensor on these trucks. My dad was a truck driver for years, and he said they used to just take the filters out, beat them on the side of the gas tank, then use compressed air to blow them out from the backside. He would do this 2 or 3 times before replacing the filter. I always thought that was kind of screwy, but he drove with guys that had almost a million miles on their trucks, and he had well over 250k on his Peterbilt when he sold it.

Haha wow that's insane almost a million miles. But yeah I wasn't sure if more dust would go through and I'd need an oiled filter but I'm gonna stick with paper
