So I ordered the Airaid replacement intake tube for my 2000 as my stock stuff is falling apart...... and I like the idea of cleaning up the left side of the engine bay. After reviewing quiet a few existing threads on this subject I keep seeing the terms ISR and deck plate mods. What exactly are these two things?

ISR (intake silencer removal) is what you're doing by using a straight tube from the air cleaner box to the throttle body. Your intake will be a little louder after this.
The Deck Plate Mod is where you drill a 4" round hole in the front of your air cleaner box, and install a marine deck plate so you can close up the hole in bad weather. Your intake would be a lot louder after this. I'll leave the cost/benefit analysis of the Deck Plate Mod to other commentators.

I did a black deck plate for mine to avoid any hassles with smog checks. I run it open about half the time, depends on my mood...

i have done both....plus a more free flowing borla muffler and the big "O" throttle body gasket that TRD uses.
The ISR mod I like for cleaning up the engine bay...in my opinion...and it will make the rig a bit louder.
the deck plate mod...it was cheap...dont know if it really helped but this rig had a broken airbox , had to replace...so thought...why not... and after the newness of the idea in my past 4runner...quit messing with open or closed.
the borla muffler.....again dont know if it helped but I like the sound..but I needed a muffler so thought why not. all sugested on this forum for more mpg and power....however lots of debate out there even on this forum on any of these really help with power or mpg....
now related to all that....look at the same year taco....the ISR is a lot smaller and the exhaust system is more free flowing and even the toyota books show that the exact same engine puts out a few more horsepower....they were not trying to make it quite like a sedan
but I still did not see any gains other than the cleaned up engine form getting rid of the big ISR. Take with a grain of salt they say....as my recent one has the ISR mod and the deck plate mod and when it needs a muffler will look into borla again. As far as the big "O" gasket....when I had my throttle body off I just cut the d shape into an "O" , dont know if it helps...but TRD does it....maybe its for the supercharger engines.

Based on the thread title I was thinking Airaid bothered to design a new version of their intake tube for the old 3rd gens........
if you have not spent the money yet you could always go to an exhaust shop and have them cut you and flare a piece of metal to fit..there is also a write up on youtube that lists a exact size diameter pipe...you just have to cut it to size at home ( length) both of these options are under 20 bucks. last one i did was the youtube link pipe.. you just have to spice into a vacum line for your fuel pressure regulator....not a big deal

OH OK - Didn't realize they had an Amazon store. Their own website has said Out Of Stock for ages. Not looking to do that until I have completely run out of sensible mods.....

The O-gasket probably only helps on the supercharged engines. Likely the "D" gasket does something to even out airflow to the cylinders in stock form. That said, I still opened mine up to an "O" shape. Who knows if it is good or bad.

When I started looking I saw several sites including Airaid that said out of stock. This one I ordered through CARiD. There are other companies and everyone seems to be stuck on that $159.00 price tag.

I run the Airaid intake tube with the stock air box and a Street Max muffler (sounds similar to a Magnaflow to me). I considered the deck plate mod but I drive constantly in dusty conditions so I didn't think I would drive with it open enough to warrant the effort. I'm happy with the set up, especially having reduced the clutter. Cleaner look than the funky baffle box.

The deckplate does bring in more dust because it gets air from right behind the headlight. The stock location is in the fender behind the dust shield so it's relatively cleaner.
I saw a dyno run of a stock 4Runner with no supercharger with the deckplate mod and with it closed. Surprisingly, there was about a 5 HP difference (dyno chart has been lost with age to wherever old websites go and die). But that's at full throttle, engine at max RPM. How many of us drive like that? Even I don't and at least I have reason to. It does make power though so I guess if you combined it with a few other mods and such you could eek out another 10 HP. That might be enough difference when hauling gear up a mountain pass.
Got mine installed and love the open space. I have a supercharger so I didnt have to deal with the two hose inlets closest to the MAF. Did you have to drill those out? Mine are plugged and cant understand why they wouldn't just come drilled with plugs installed.
