well my factory battery is now dead. I was curious as to which one of the optimas would be best? red top, blue top, or yellow top?

The blue top is a marine battery so you probably wouldn't want that.

Red would be fine for a stock vehicle.

Like 2x4 said, if you have lots of electronics or if you plan on it in the future a yellow would be a good upgrade.

Is the yellow top more $$?

Im going to do everything in my power to get the stock Panasonic battery when my time comes as it is a beast. There has to be some way we can get them over here.

I just replaced my battery last week with the Optima Red top 34R 8003-151. It was plug and play - no modifications. I've heard if you run alot of extra electronics the yellow top is a better choice, but some modifications have to been done when installing it.

$142 - No shipping cost.

hate to tell ya but its not plug and play for my '03. off to walmart to get longer cables.

lots people have problems with optima batts, just google it.

i vote for Diehard Platinum from Sear's. it's re-labeled Odyssey, but without the $300 price tag. the one i got was from a guy in colorado off YT forum, he never used it, i had it sit in my garage through the whole winter. so after 10 months it off the shelf, i finally put it in early april of this year, it turned the key, the motor started right a way with authority.

it's in my 3rd gen 4Runner.

Hmmmmm. The 34R fit my 2005 V6 no problem. The battery shipped with a cap on top of it which is placed on the bottom of the battery to extend it's height. The cap also contained adapters for other types of vehicles.

yeah I had to put the top piece on the bottom to raise it but had to get longer cables. the positvie fit w/o any problems but it was the negative that didn't want to go on. it fits tightly now. maybe the v6 and v8 cables are different in some way???

get a optima yellow top, its pricey but its amazing, ive had mine for about 10 months and i can run my stereo, compressor and lights on it for a super long time and then i start it right up

cost about $230

Wow, you were able to get 6 years on the stock battery? I had my battery replaced with another Panasonic. You can't go wrong with those batteries.

Took delivery of my '03 in February that year, and the original battery is still cranking it over every day. Though I have been giving it some thought, and I suspect I will change it before next winter.

yup 6 years on the original battery. not too bad in my opinion. only reason why I didn't go with another panosonic is because I eventually want to have 2 optima batteries for a winch and more lights.

OEM battery

Replaced original 2003 Panasonic with same from the dealer.
$92 with trade. Optima red top almost twice as much ($139).
Didn't make any sense for money as I got 6 years with the original.

I came to this question couple of years ago and started a thread .. Ideally you would want a 34R yellow top --- which they do not make ! they suggested the smaller size down yellowtop BUT the 34R RED top had better specs than that ... So in the end i say just go with a 34R Red Top .......

OR

Get the panny battery at the dealer !
