Here is a teaser of my new bumper (crappy pic with especially bad lighting). Probably can't see much but I promise better pics when it gets the final install. Going back next week after powder coat! This is the same shop that did Mike's bumper with a slightly different side (didn't get a usable shot but essentially they just refined the angles a little more). Going to have the -spare/hi lift carrier and ladder on the swing-outs.

But here is the cut rear member and you can see how we cut the exhaust so it will be out of the way. Getting to drive without a rear end is kinda strange... needless to say, I won't be going far and will use the other vehicle as much as possible till I go back and have the install done.

On a related theme. I was wondering the other day why no one incorporates a winch mount in their custom rear bumper?

It would seem that there would be room w the tire gone. Even if you didn't install immediately it would be nice to give the option to add a rear winch down the line.
 
Dang... I am no longer the only one. What is the difference on the sides? Did Luke do the storage bin in the bumper for you?

Otherwise can't wait to see the finished product.

Just a slight angle change to smooth it out a little. I didn't notice till he showed me. That and my arms will be set slightly back from yours which give the rear hatch just a little more clearance over the arm stop. I didn't get the storage in the bumper. Good news is the tow rating is the same as stock and according to Luke, probably stronger than stock. This version is his final he says after the slight tweak here and there but I doubt you would be able to tell unless you put ours side by side. I am stoked to see what the ladder option will ultimately look like as he is going to build it to follow the truck rear hatch closely and has an adapter to take a removable Jerry can/ cooler rack he designed.

I got super lucky as he had one built already when I contacted him a couple weeks back and that is what I got. Not sure when he is going to build more, but he said he has a couple projects and then expects to build more of them.

I know he can pretty much build whatever people want. Price was as Mark says above at 3500. His work though is stellar and he is very good! I watched him and his guys work and they are all top notch. They have made some impressive rigs! Might even have them rebuild my utility trailer as an offloaded/ overland rig. Found out they are also a Tepui dealers and had one on an adventure rig they are building. Cool stuff for sure!

2 questions.

Is that a high-lift mount on the outer edge of the ladder?

Are those high lift points on the corners?

That is for a shovel or high lift but since I have another behind the spare I plan to use it for a shovel. I think you are correct about the hi lift points (I went and looked and will take more detailed pics for you if you want). He is also building me a jerry can rack that mounts to the bolts that are holding the lic plate on so that it can be removed if not needed.

Looks real nice, but I just have one question. Why is there such a large gap between the bumper and fender/rear lights?

That is for flex. You wouldn't want it flush up there as a little movement would trash the panels or light housing. Look at any of the older steel bumpers on trucks and you will notice that it isn't flush with body panels or lights that aren't mounted directly to the steel. It could have gasket of some sort though and might look a little more "finished" for those who are like a more factory installed look. It honestly doesn't bother me.
 
Looks good. I see Luke moved the tire more inboard to have more clearance to see the lights. Ladder looms good to.

And yes those holes on the corners are for the hi lift.

I have shots underneath the bumper in my build thread for those that are interested.

Beautiful, and even more impressive is it's functional! After spending months on a rear tire-carrier bumper for my Tacoma, I can attest that yours is worth every penny. Wonder how many people will ask if it came from the factory that way, outstanding attention to detail. :thumb:
 
Now I have a photo request. Can you take a couple photos of how Luke relocated the trailer plugs? Mine are gone and I am probably going to pick up some and want to relocate it just incase I tow something in the future.

Luke does great work! I am sure more 5th Gen guys will be hitting him up.
