New clutch and old broken pressure plate

Installed a new marlin HD clutch kit in my 2000 4Runner this past weekend. I can't believe how much easier the clutch pedal feels now. This probably has something to do with one of the pressure plate fingers being broken off. The broken finger was laying in the bottom of the bell housing. I just hit 110,000 2 weeks ago and am wondering why the pressure plate broke. It happened back in January one fine freezing cold day here in WI. I couldn't get it in gear and the clutch wasn't fully disengaging when the pedal was pressed. After limping it around for a few days the problem kind of went away, everything but a heavy feeling clutch pedal. Anyway all is good now. Anyone ever heard of this before? I found a few threads on broken pressure plates but doesn't seem like a very common failure.

Now to address the coolant that is leaking (hopefully just from the water pump) and timing belt time...

I broke 3 fingers off a napa pressure plate a few years ago. It happens.
