New Guy - ARB/OME 4RUnner - some questions.

Hi all,

I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I recently purchased a CPO 2006 4Runner SR5 4WD. I had the local 4x4 shop install an ARB bumper, Warn M8000, OME lift, ATX Mojave Wheels, and 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers.

Unfortunately, I am having some issues, and hoped y'all could give me some guidance.

(1) When I make a right hand turn, there is a popping/rattling in the left front suspension area. My local 4x4 shop has been all over the truck and we cant find the source. We have taken the skid plates off and on, re-torqued the bumper, installed a sway bar relocation kit, installed a new CV shaft, even ground a little off the caliper (we thought it might be hitting the wheel).

It only occurs at low speed, when turning right, with light/moderate load on the suspension. Change any of these variables, and there is no noise. Any thoughts?

(2) Sometimes, when making a turn with authority (ie. trying to make a sharp left across traffic) the traction control decides it doesnt like whatever is going on and it kicks in hard... really hard. There is a loud clang, the traction control light flashes and beeps, and the truck decides the brakes need to be applied. Is there any fix for this? Can I program the truck to understand it has just been lifted and larger tires have been installed?

I'm not sure about the popping/rattling and it sounds like your shop has been through it. Maybe the dust shield on the brakes... maybe bushings?

For the traction control issue, a couple of things come to mind. The first being the VSC-off mod, but you may have to do that zero-point calibration. I've never done it, but there is plenty of discussion around it and it is basically resetting the yaw sensor.

I Figured it out!!!!! It turns out that the bumper was contacting the upper OEM bumper mounts beneath the headlights. They are thin stamped steel pieces that bolt on and run underneath the headlight between the fender mount and the radiator support.

The ARB mouting arm was runnbing the edges of those pieces, and had worn a groove in them. As the chassis flexed in turns, the bumper was "popping" in and out of the groove it had worn.

I removed the mounts. Problem solved!!!! I dont think the pieces I removed are structural at all. If they are, I can clearance them and re-install. So far, I have had zero issues with removing them. In fact, I have noticed less "cowl shake" between the hood and the bumper.

It is so nice now. The truck is as quiet as it was when it was OEM.

I have the same problem sometimes but when i make sharp right turns. If I'm carrying momentum into the turn, the vsc kicks in, as if the tires aren't turning the vehicle and sliding on the pavement. I guess slower is better.

Anyone have any thoughts?
