I looked at the brackets on mine. they are actually stamped 16 ga steel (1/16" thick) sandwiched under the front tow points. not remotely close to sturdy enough to protect anything. in fact, looks like previous owner hit something, the aluminum plate flexed up and damaged the chin of the bumper. probably would have cleared whatever they hit without the "skid" plate. too bad they look so cool.

I just fabbed two rectangle extensions (I'll have to go out and do measurements later) with corresponding bolt holes on each end to move the plate straight forward.

The measurements should be 3" long by the width of the actual OEM bracket. Do the meaurement yourself as all bumpers may vary by up to a half inch so set it where YOU want it.

If you don't move the plate forward then it well under the bumper pressing into the underneath plastic.

The '02s runners have their own brackets but I like the position of mine much better.

yea, yours looks very clean, and i do like the concept of it hugging the bumper, but like rhymevigilante said, if it gets hit and flexes in, then whats the point, so ill probably fab some sort of support across the top. probably wont do a whole lot if i come down wrong on a big boulder, but its worth a shot

I always remove it when I off road so if anything hits it while on pavement the plate will be the least of my worries.
