Hello all... I want to first say thanks to all of you that have taken so much time to post pictures and write-ups on this site to spell stuff out very simply for people that are not as mechanically incline as some. That being said, I have been stalking this site for the past 4 weeks while I have been waiting on my new 2012 Black TE 4Runner to get here...
I thought by buying the TE, that I loved so much, the way it came stock that I would just have to worry about making the payment on it... Until I saw what a lot of you have done to yours... they look great.
First the tires....
So after hearing every argument on tires I decided on the Duratracs 265 stock size... I lost a little bit of the smooth ride but the fact that it makes the truck look so sick, I'm willing to no longer attempt at changing lanes faster than 80mph...(and thanks for the tip on discount trading in my factory tires I would never have known they would do that and also the tip on how a lot of you had to go back and have them balanced several times I made sure to have the Manager of the store get his hands dirty to make sure it was done right the first time.)
I have looked into powder coating TE rims black (black on black) and found a place locally to do it pretty cheap. $300 plus $80 to remove and replace the tires...which I don't know if I trust the guy at the paint shop to mount and balance my tires... That probably means another trip to discount to have them rebalance it... And also that fact that I would have to spray paint the plastic center caps scares me... I know you guys have given lots of tips on which paint to use and how to use a little sand paper to prep the plastic so the paint sticks.... But I'm sure I would mess it up so I'll prob ask the same shop to spray paint the centers as well... I know the cost is getting up towards making more sense to just buy new rims but I really like the look of the trail rims.
So I have the sliders narrowed down to budbuilt bump out, but I can't decide on full plating or no plating... Or beefy or normal.... So my thoughts are since I'm prob not going to use them for the rock crawling just to protect my doors from getting dinged I don't need the beefy ones so I can save a few bucks there And I was sold on the full plating cause it looked more functional to use as a step to get in the truck and a place to stand on to dry the roof when washing it... But then I saw a couple of yours without the plating and it looks pretty awesome... I think it is SoCaltrail that has the none plating but he also has the gobbi roof rack with the same tubular design which makes it looks so sick...or it could be his hidden round headlight under the grill that also makes it so sick...
Does anyone have a black trail on here with bud's sliders in either the full plating or non-plating with a pic so I can see how it looks?
Either way I need to make up my mind quick cause I hear the sliders take a month or so to get here and parking a million miles away from everyone to avoid door dings in the Vegas heat is killing.
