New here from Ontario

Figured I should post up an intro after lurking the site for a few days. I'm in the market for a 3rd gen 4 runner. I am moving from Ontario to British Columbia in the fall and would like something more capable and practical than my current vehicle (96 honda civic lowered 4 inches, engine/trans/brake swapped). I can't see it staying stock for long once I get out there. I am having a serious look into a well maintained, mature driven 97 this upcoming week. Its got high km (275000) but I am going to do a compression test to make sure that there will still be some life to the engine. Ive had a good read through the 3rd gen sub forum and I have to say this site seems to be very informative and minimal bs.

So I just wanted to say hello and thanks for the info!

I don't know if this would be possible for you at all, but if I were you I'd consider waiting till I got to BC to buy something. From what I know of Ontario car's they're rust buckets. On the flip side, anything from southern BC, the island or near Vancouver are in mint condition. It's almost like a time warp there, no salt on the roads so they look new way longer. Also, then you don't have to worry about out of province inspections and depending on where you're moving to any possible AirCare (or whatever they call their emissions tests there) issues.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Either way, a 3rd gen runner is a great choice and welcome aboard.

:welcome: from Greensboro, NC. I'm a newbie here too. Agree if you're moving to BC, you'll need something a bit better than a civic. I picked up a 2000 4runner last week. Good luck with your search for a 3rd gen. Hope you find something good.

Thanks for the warm welcome here guys!
I made a deal today for the 4runner SR5 3.4. I hope to have it this weekend and on the road by next week. I work at a dealership so I was able to have 2 mechanics look over the vehicle quite well, one of them has also owned a second gen in the past. Honestly it looked quite clean for the age and it was well maintained, oil coated every year but the past with fresh brake lines underneath, passed e test well yesterday to boot. I got the thumbs up from these guys and I trust them. If I could have waited to purchase out west I would have but the 4runner is an integral part of the mission. I'm going to have it packed to the roof and some on the roof for the trip out. Its my second time doing the drive and I'm hoping to make it more of an adventure this time around.
I do the detailing at the dealership so I plan to clean up as much of the minimal rust that is on the truck, thinking about getting some new factory headlights cause I can get a sweet deal. I will also do the usual interior shampoo, fill in scratches, sand, cut, polish, and wax it. Can't wait to get started!

Haha I know. I haven't taken delivery of the truck yet, still driving (the piss out of) my civic for a few more days. I am going to miss the b&m short throw shifter and weighted knob combo the most. I am getting the new vehicle Saturday and plating it Tuesdaybecause the most ridiculous holiday know to man (Family Day) is on Monday. I'll toss up some pics this week.

Pretty pumped right now. I got the 4Runner today, got to drive it down about 30km with a dealer plate to the shop. We got a good amount of snow this morning in my area so I was able to dip into some thick stuff in 4 wheel. Brought it in to wash it up. The previous owner kept it quite clean so just a bath and a vac today.

Yeah I couldn't believe the shape it was in because as you know our winters here are brutal for salt and humidity. The worst of the rust is on the running boards. I was planning on cleaning it up but I'm noticing that pretty much everyone on here with a 3rd gen is ripping the factory boards off. I think it looks kinda naked without anything so I am going to see if my work can get me some chrome bars on the cheap. Ugh, looks like I have found another money pit hahaha.

Been a good week for automotive deals for me. I got this 4Runner at a great price yesterday and after 6 or 7 hours of having my civic listed I sold it today making up a decent chunk of the 4Runners cost.
