New Member- lift, wheels, and tires?

A little background first. I just bought a new T4R Limited this spring. I have had a 2nd gen and a 4th gen, as well as a Tacoma. The last 9 years, I have driven a 2500 CC Dodge diesel, which I absolutely loved, but ultimately decided to sell because it was starting to nickel and dime me too much. It has been a difficult transition back to a smaller vehicle with no bed. One that I regret sometimes.

Now, I have modded ALL of my vehicles to some extent, and usually after a couple of years, I wish I would have left it stock, because some problem always arises after modifying.

I am starting to get the bug as far as a lift, wheels, and tires go. I NEED to feel like I'm not driving a car again. My main issue that I'm having trouble with is a spare tire. I do not want to add bigger tires, only to lose the option of having a spare. How much room is there under the T4R for a larger spare? I would love to go really big, but I understand that my realistic options will ultimately be decided by how much functionality I will lose. I don't do much, if any serious off-roading, but I would like to spice it up some.

a 285 will fit in the factory spare location..... been covered a million time. I suggest looking at the sticky up top dedicated to lifte 4rs

What Stifler said. Also check out the sticky for Build Threads. Between those two you will have an abundance of ideas to mod your 4Runner. Do you plan on keeping the 20s or going down to a 17' or 18' wheel? The spare tire location can handle some more rubber which is nice. Lots of lift options too. Check out some of the sponsors sites. I've had great service from Wheelers myself.

Thanks. I was looking through that 178 page thread, but I must have missed the info on the spare.

I don't know if I'll keep the 20's on there or not yet. They are really too narrow if you want to move up much. Most likely, I will look for a set of the factory 17's that someone has taken off and go from there.

well keep in mind that if you stick with the 20s your tire choices is VERY limited.
