I get 16.5-17.5 city with my bigger Nittos and I'm a leadfoot and this MPG is with my Yakima up top and with my mom getting 18 from her bone stock '99 Limited I don't really see the loss.
If you never see off road (meaning kmore than a dirt road or flat trail) then Nittos or any A/T tire is a poor choice but if you do off road more than a few times Nittos are one of the best and affordable AT tires out there and with very good road manners especially in the wet they are in my experiences better than any BFG A/T I've driven on.
I won't even bother trying another tire at this point.
