New or Used? Which one did you get?

JUST bought a used one saturday. '05 for my wife. No bells and whistles as it was almost out of our price range anyway...
'05 SR5, 55K miles, very few options. We traded in, so the value is a little skewed (they paid WAY too much for our old car
)
Never thought I could afford a 4Runner. Woo Hoo!! for the economy going in the trashcan!!! Makes SUV's much more affordable.
After taking a $14,000 (over 50%) loss in less than 3 years on a new car, I'll never buy new again... Seriously, I do not make enough money to watch that kind of discretionary income vanish. Props to those folks who do! Feel free to send a little extra my way to help me get through grad school if you'd like :biggrin2:

Just bought my 2004 Limited 4x4 V8 a month ago with 52k on it and every bell and whistle possible, paid 15,900 (7k below book) and couldnt be happier! I purchased a new Acura in 2005, paid 27k for it and it depreciated 10 grand in a year nad a half!! DO NOT BUY NEW UNLESS YOU INTEND TO KEEP IT FOREVER!!!!!

I paid 18,500 w/61k miles for my '05 in October. I would say it's a very fair deal. But don't hesitate to work 'em down . Throw $16,500 on the table with a "take it or leave" it attitude. And do that on the LAST DAY of the month. Especially this month, which is short, so less $$$ for their month-end totals. Then talk trade-in if you have one. But not until you have them as low as you can get them. You are in the drivers seat with theses dealers now (assuming it's through a dealership). If not, try $16,500 anyway.

Picked up an '08 SR5 4x4 v6 for 23k in oct. Only 10k miles on this one. The dealer gave us 13.5 for the old car that was only worth 12 and we only owed 11 on. 26k was starting price when we drove in. Not bad for 5 hours of work.
Bought a brand new '08 Sport in December. With old Jeep trade-in....saved about 8 grand. Not a great deal....but ok.
It's a V8 2WD salsa red, black leather, JBL 10 speaker system, homelink, wheel locks, stainless steel door entry sills. NO sunroof. No rear wing.
Perfect......exactly what I wanted. Well..........maybe I'll add the stainless steel exhaust tip.
Smooth and SOLID!!!!!
May keep it forever.

I bought my first 4Runner used then my 2nd brand spankin' new with 4 miles on the odometer. I ordered it with specific features, etc... My sales guy called when the transport arrived and I watched them take it off the transport. I even washed it at the dealer (with my soap, etc... ) so they wouldn't scratch it (can we say OCD! 
) . That was pretty darn cool!

Bought my 04 Sport back in Feb of 08 for $20,400 with 50k. Seems like a lot for it after reading through and seeing what some of the other guys paid for theirs. However, here in South Dakota it was a damn good price. Anything comparable around here was a good five thousand more- without the sunroof and brush guard and not as clean.

Used is the way to go
Paid $17,000 for my loaded one owner SR5 with 50,000 miles a few months ago.
They gave me a stupid high trade value on my old Mazda sedan too so my financed total price out the door was $14,000.
Not a single door ding or scratch on the outside anywhere. Still had that new car smell on the inside too. Even the cargo area was scratch free.
I am very happy with the truck and I make pretty decent money, but I can't imagine paying $30k for it.

Special Ordered my 07 Limited. The wait was only a few weeks and well worth it to get the truck exactly as I wanted. I took delivery on 7/7/07.
Odometer had 7 miles on it when I drove it off the lot!!! Talk about peace of mind. I babied it that first 1000 miles. Never slammed on the gas, never slammed on the brakes and never drove over 60mph during that time. Since then have had oil changed at each 5Kmile service.
Depreciation doesn't bother me a bit because I'll drive it for at least 10 years like all my other cars.
I paid handsomely for the truck, but to me it's money well spent for peace of mind and assurance that it will take care of me. Unless you buy from a family member or friend, you just don't know the history of the truck. I think Carfax is a good start, but it is only as accurate as the information that was reported.

Long story short, after I got it home, I noticed the sunroof didn't close properly, the remote to unlock the truck and set the alarm didn't work even with a new battery. I then discovered most of the grey carpet on the flooorboards was stained by alot of brown liquid (can you say flood damage?!)
The headliner was really scratched up and even had a couple of ciggarette burs in it and the truck smelled like an ashtray.
We checked on Carfax but everthing came up clean in the report. CF did say it was a company fleet vehicle.
I returned the truck back to Carmax two days later and said thanks but no thanks. They didn't hassle me at all.

Right on, I'm in for the long haul also. I did pay quite a bit compared to others even though I was able to get 5000 off sticker price. Buying new with intent to keep it was always on my mind. I do in the future plan on getting another 4runner but that one would be a used one because I still like the older body styles. Best of all prices for a nice used older style one fits the budget well.
I bought my 4Runner in Feb 04. I got to walk through the lot and pick out exactly the one I wanted. They were all pretty much optioned the same so I was really just choosing color, but it was nice to see them all there and pick the exact one I would get even though there were about 5 other gray ones there.
I drove it off the lot a few days later after they prepped it and installed the rear spoiler with less than 3 miles on the odometer.
It's got 93k on it now and is a pleasure to drive every day.
