New Owner 10' Limited 4x4: Pics, and Questions

Pics attached.

Black wasn't my first choice, but I do like the color combo with the tan interior.

Anyway, this forum looks like a wealth of information...and good people.

So, on to my first question:

Question 1: I'm coming from an SUV that had 345HP, and although I like many things about the 4Runner, this beast just feels underpowered. Shifts seem slow/sluggish too, especially when you step on the accelerator and expect a downshift. What is the #1 thing I can do to get more power?

Question 2: The driver side seat leather has a bit of a wrinkle/crack in it, right at the entry point. Is this normal? I was surprised to see it on a vehicle with only 25K miles.

Question 3: Sidesteps. My wife is 5' and I've been issued a "tall" order to get side steps. Problem is, with the ones I've seen...I haven't been too impressed. Any recommendations here?

Hi and welcome from another noob. I too am interested in a bit more power and I'm sure others will chime in on that. Regarding the seat, Toyotas are not unique in that as Ford and Honda have had the same issues. Seems to be manufacturers have changed the foam type used in cushions and it breaks down much more easily, causing leather/fabric to wrinkle. Upholstery shops seem to be the only cure as they can re-stuff the seats with firmer and better foam. Hope that helps.

very nice rig! love the color combo but hate light interior for cleanliness reason personally.

1. drive off a cliff if you want the 4R to go faster lol

2. Pretty normal. Mine has it as well. With side steps you can sit over that side portion without you probably are sliding in over it (or the previous owner)

3. DeeZee seem to be the popular choice around here

1. Discussed ad nauseum. It's programmed for mpg. You'll have to learn to drive it. It will really go, you just have to stuff it hard.

2. The previous owner should have had Running Boards - the problem is caused by sliding in/out. I've had RBs since new, and no signs of this issue.

3. Suggestion is to do as wifey asks (mine is short too). DeeZees are good but there are many.

For question #1 the easiest thing to do is trade it in on another suv with 345 hp. You sound a lot like me. I like a vehicle to have a lot of horsepower.

I plan on using the 4R as my primary work/commute vehicle and picking up a project/weekend car later this year...so no trade for a while. ;)

I don't have to have that much HP, but I wouldn't mind more aggressive shift patterns with the tranny on the 4R. From 4,000RPM upward, it does have decent pull. I had a "Sport Mode" on my last ride that did that, and remapped accelerator pedal for more aggressive output response. I miss that.

Thanks and good advice. Looked at other 2010 4Runners on eBay with less mileage and some of their driver seats actually look worse...guess I need to do those running boards asap.

Congrats on the new 4Runner and welcome to the forum!

The only option at present for the sluggish slow shifting right now is to regear the diffs from 3:73's to 4:56 gears.A supercharger option should be out later this year from TRD and URD.
I'm running 34's but with stock size tires it would probably smoke them off with regearing. The trade off is about 1-2mpg highway mileage but city driving is the same or better mpg's with much improved throttle response.

Gary-was hoping to hear a review and thoughts on your recent regear.
