New Owner of a 2011 SR5

Hi Everyone,

I recently got my hands on a new to me 2011 SR5 4X4 Black w/ Tan Interior 4Runner. So far I'm really loving the truck and I'm quite happy with it. I'm loving the forum as well and I've learned a lot just browsing around, what an awesome resource.

The truck is about to turn over 85k and I want to be good and get up to date on any outstanding maintenance before I start looking into getting a lift on this puppy.

I went through the maintenance guide and it's really not the most informative as has been mentioned on here many times. I've been searching all over this forum and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on certain maintenance items...

Stuff I'm pretty certain on:

• Engine Oil & Filter, Tire Rotations and Chassis Greasing every 10k
• Air and Cabin filter every 30K
• Engine Coolant should be replaced at 100k per the maintenance guide
• Spark plugs should be replaced at 120K per the maintenance guide

I'm pretty sure I'm due for both differentials and the transfer case fluids being changed. I've seen some change this as often as 15k and others go as long as 100K. If you're not towing a lot or doing heavy off-roading, what's a reasonable interval recommendation?

Brake Fluid Interval? I've seen 20k to never on here... The maintenance guide never mentions this specifically, just to inspect the lines.

Transmission fluid change? I've seen many recommend 100k but I also understand the transmission is "sealed". The maintenance guide says to do this at 60k and 120k under special operating conditions. Under normal conditions it just says to inspect. And should this be a flush or a just a fluid change? My understanding is just a fluid change.

Power steering fluid. I've got nothing on this one. Any ideas? Never?

I'm more in the camp of the engineers know best and not to needless change fluids/components before the recommended intervals. And given the synthetic fluids out there I know the intervals can be long.

Am I missing any other regular maintenance items?

I think you are on the right track. My basic approach.

Oil + filter ~ 7k
Tranny ~ 75-100k
Diffs and transfer ~30-50k
Brake fluid - if it ever feels squishy. Some systems are better than others
Power Steering - never
Coolant ~ 100k
Plugs ~ 100k

Make sure you put her in 4wd at least once a month to keep the TCase in good shape.

I go by the book also. When it comes to the transmission, I would personally go for a service that exchanges ALL of the fluid. On many autos, you will only end draining and replacing something like 30% of the fluid if you just do a basic drain and fill service. I see no point in putting in some new fluid into a bunch of old fluid. It's such a rare expense, you may as well go all the way and get all of the fluid changed.

This is from the Toyota Owner`s site for 2013. There is too much warranty info but finally around page 40 it gives miles and months service recommendations.

That guide is pretty much exactly the same for the 2011s. Except I guess by 2013 they dropped the 4 cylinder engine. Does anyone even have one of these? The truck must be anemic with a 4 cylinder.

I'm prob gonna do the transmission fluid at 100k and call it good until 200k.

For my 85k service I'm gonna go with the usual 10k stuff and do the differential fluids and the transfer case fluid and call it good until 100k. At that time I'll do the transmission fluid and the coolant.
