There isn't much difference in the brightness of high and low beam, but the beam pattern itself is different. It's more of a spot whereas on low beams it's more of a flood pattern. The LED's don't trigger the high beam indicator, presumably because they draw significantly less power, so I have to be pretty conscientious of when I have them on or not. If I forget usually the first oncoming car I encounter gives me a reminder [emoji854]. I did reinstall the rubber boot. I'm not sure what your asking though on the heat sink?
 
Are these LED's a whiter light or are they blue. I couldn't see what the bulbs were rated at.

Can these be used if you have daytime running lights?

What's the warranty if any? I see the website mentions a 30,000 hour life span. I figure that would maybe give about 20 years if used 4 hours a night 7 days a week.

I know I would be pretty annoyed if the $200 LEDs burnt out in 20 months like my $60 (set) PIAA Xtreme White halogen driverside bulb just did last night.

I like PIAA stuff but I don't want to be replacing headlights at a $100 plus a bulb every year and a half.
 
I will check warranty with my rep at Piaa. Already sent him an email, but keep in mind it's the holidays and these companies don't get back to right away currently.
 
I'm referring to the black thing at the rear of the bulb. Is that removable? How far does it extend and where is the power socket?

With the halogen H4, one needs to install the bulb and lock, the spring clip, then install the rubber boot, then plug the power socket.

With this LED bulb, how did you go about in installing the bulbs?

I wish, no. These new Piaa LED are over triple that, think of the LED as a new and improved HID KIT, with nothing that can really break. The ones in this thread are the full LED Piaa bulbs.

Now, if you don't want to spend $200+ for the LED version, see the link below. This is one of my favorite incandescent bulbs out of any I've seen of the filament type bulbs.
This still shows a good difference on the color difference over a stock bulb. The new LED version will just be much brighter than any filament bulb can ever be.

There's pretty lengthy power cords because there is ballasts that need to be mounted and plugged in. I can send pictures. My set up isn't ideal but I did it pretty quickly.

I know there was a request for some other pictures and I haven't forgotten I've just been super busy.

Not a bad price considering the "top dog" among the H4 type LED bulbs (Philips X-treme Ultinon) are $250. Ever since Philips released it there have been many China-based systems based off it.

I've tested both the original Philips and a copy that jdmastar.com sells (you can find the same on eBay),but not yet on a 3rd-gen. I really like the color of the Philips, not overly blue; the jdmastar is a tad more blue but had a better beam pattern (low and high beam) because the housing is adjustable, it's also cheaper than Philips or PIAA. Neither one had an issue with the highbeam indicator not working.

Maybe I'll test the Philips setup on my '02 tomorrow. I'd be willing to do an unbiased test of the PIAA if you send a set over Jason :wink2:

Also guys,don't expect these to be HID projector killers. There is an improvement over halogen, there is less glare than a "plug n play" HID kit, and there is a usable highbeam that a kit doesn't offer.

I am curious as well, how does the spring clip fit over the fan & heat sink?

The claim that these (or any) LEDs are "brighter than HIDs, perhaps even projectors" seems a stretch. No offense but I just have to disagree. I've got projectors on my truck from TRS. I've got an Acura TL with factory HID and my girl's car is a CT200h with factory projectors but I upgraded from halogen bulb to ballasts and HID.

I'm sure that these LEDs are great but the cost to greatness value is questionable. And if you don't have 99 style headlights I'm skeptical it will be very much of an improvement at all because the 96 style glass doesn't allow a huge amount of light out.

To the next guy who does this upgrade can you please do a test. Download the light meter app on your phone and at sunset mature the LUM at ten-ish feet from one headlight then after the bulb swap repeat and let us know the numbers.

Can you recommend a particular light meter app? iPhone or Android? I see a bunch for the iPhone but I do not want to screw around with downloading crappy apps. The wife has an Android phone so I can download there if needed too.

I'm on the verge of ordering some. Hard to pull the trigger on light bulbs that cost a $100+ each though. I'll probably get them soon if I do. I'll do a full write-up and compare them to stock halogen (if I can find my old set ) as well as the Piaa H4 Xtreme white bulbs (one just burnt out after 20 months). Might even be able to test them in both types of reflector housings ( new & old style OEM ).

Anyone know if the rubber boots from a 1997 headlight housing will fit the 99+ clear headlights? When I pulled the headlights from the junkyard, someone had already gotten the boots.

If not, anyone have a part number or spares they want to sell?

In the past I've used an Android app called Light-O-Meter. One downside of a phone app is you can't really know how accurate it is but I figure it should be able to detect the differences. For example before was 800 LUX and after is 1000, a 25% gain.
 
got mine in the mail today!



Thanks to Jason for getting them to me so quick. Been pretty disappointed with the hids the truck came with. i wont be able to install mine until this weekend due to work, but ill do a write up on install and a review with before/after pictures.



just from a quick glance over, these seem way better built than most stuff on the market. the bulbs and heatsink are pretty heavy, everything seems tight and strong enough, and the ballast are metal, no cheap plastic. the connectors are pin style connectors that screw together, so no chance of them working themselves loose. really excited to get these in the truck
