New Rear Bumper

OK, so I kinda explained what was going on in post above. Back is 4x2 tube 3/16", sides are 2x2 tube 3/16". The section in the middle is 4x2 that was cut at a diagonal to tie the two pieces together.

Bumper is currently secured in back by 4 bolts that hold hitch to rear crossmember. There are also two side supports coming straight out of frame rails that attach to bumper sides (wings). I need to firm up another support for the end of bumper sides.

There is a gap on top by ends of bumper that will be covered with flat steel so top portion is uniform and has no gaps. The pieces you see tacked on the bumper sides are coming down at a 45 degree angle and will all tie in together at the bottom (just have not gotten that far yet). Hopefully you can get the idea from the pics. These will all be supported by a 1x1 tube or channel and welded to 2x2 main bumper. The piece in the pic is the length I am using, so if you can just imagine another piece welded at a 45 on the middle section, and then a long piece all along the back that is about 2" wide at a 45. Doing this gives the bumper a little more flare, it was too skinny and too plain the way it was before. This also hides the whole rear crossmember. The bumper hangs as low as the frame rails, no lower.

These pics are just a start and I know they kinda suck, sorry. Now that everything is finally figured out in my head, things should go quicker. Its just a matter of finding time to get back into the shop and finish it. I think I have another couple long days getting everything fab'd and looking good before I send it out for powder.

Also I am cutting a hole for the hitch right in between those 4 bolts that hold the hitch in the factory location. So basically it will be in the exact same spot, just higher and not hanging down so low like it does now.

Hope this answers some ?'s.

I will keep posting as progress continues :)

Loooovvveee the progress.... I remember my last bumper was 50 plus feet of welds, no fun when you have to grind more than half of than down for paint. I honestly love what you have done with it so far, your angles are great, I mean f*ing great. I plan on copying all of these angles for mine.... have fun with buying 6065854943 grind wheels, but rest assured what you have done so far is amazing....

Thx. When this is all said and done let me know what you need. I would be happy to take measurements, angles, etc. to duplicate.

I hear ya, its gonna be sweet when done, just need a couple more days to button everything up!

Different ride, but may give some ideas:

Sorry guys have been super busy, sucks :(

The drivers side is done, have to duplicate on passenger side and do some finishing touches. It is turning out good, I am gonna be working on it tomorrow. I will make sure to take some pics and post tomorrow night.

Once again sorry guys this is taking so long. I am dealing with finals right now and then off to Disneyland with the family for Spring Break. Once I get home next week things should settle down and I can get this bumper finished.

I will put some pics up after I get it all put together. Thanks for the patience.

Ben

God...will you stop screwing around and finish the damn thing.....

Alright, almost done...Finally. Here are some pics. Need to finish a couple things on one side and mount it up. The hitch came out good, just sits in center of bumper, and I added two recovering points on either side of hitch.

Hopefully finish other side this week and will have some more pics of it installed.

Thanks for the patience :)
