New Revo AT2 rubbber looks good to me

After reading, re-reading and generally abusing the search engine on this site, I decided on the Revo AT2s over the BFG KOs. I always ran the KOs on my Tacoma, so this was a really hard decision. Came down to how my driving has changed since getting the 4Runner. I'm stock, and this is the stock tire size.

Let us know how your like them. I just ordered five of the same (upsize 265/70-17) from TireRack to replace my Cross Terrains. They will be delivered tomorrow and installed Saturday.

Just curious, why did you decide on the stock size? MPG?

I have only driven around 30 mi so far. Very quiet tire. Very solid ride. One of the first impressions was that they seem to grip really well when turning (more responsive steering).

Yep, I still like front hitch. Did not use it as much for fishing this year as I did for hauling other stuff when camping. I may buy a larger rack for the front next year. I saw a custom-fabricated setup a couple of weeks ago down at the DE beaches that was really sweet. It may have been _JT_ who I saw.

Wow! It has taken me a while to get back to this thread (for a lot of reasons...).

So far, I have enjoyed the Revos in:

- 18" of snow we had here in DE in Dec
- 30" of snow in the mountains of WV in Dec
- 25" of snow we had here in DE in Jan

All I can say is that these are great tires in those conditions. No problems with grip. The 4R is even more sure-footed than with the original tires. I have had no slippage or problems -- other than one time when I forgot to lock the center diff and VSC took away some of my power going through a snow bank...

On dry pavement, these tires are quiet and ride very well. On wet pavement, they have great grip. I feel a lot more safe than with the aging Dunlops that were on the truck.

I have had to play around with the air pressure a bit. I think the sweet spot for now is around 35 psi (best ride and mpg compromise).

Gromulus: I went with the stock size because I am planning to upsize and lift after this set of rubber (may go with the taller/skinnier tires though). For now, it works for me.

Any exposure to ice/black ice? How'd the Revo's do on the ice? That's a pretty good report!


You mentioned eventually going with taller/skinnier tires. I am loving my 255/75's and would highly recommend considering the 255/75's when the time comes.

My neighborhood is never plowed. All of the snow is packed down into what eventually becomes 6-8" of ice. The tires are excellent on this type of ice. Sometimes it is frozen hard, other times it has a slippery water layer on it. I feel very solid driving around on it. Pretty much the same report for black ice and patchy/thin ice on the roads. Very solid. I am very happy with the Revos.

I have been following your 255/75 reports ... I nearly went that way on this round. I love all the real-world data you get from this forum!

I've had my Revo 2s since September 09. They are without a doubt the best tire I have ever owned. They ride great (running them at 40 psi) and never lack for grip. I took a slight mileage hit but that was expected with the lift and slightly larger 265/70. They performed very well in the small amount of snow (about 3-5") we got here in Raleigh about a week ago. I grew up in MI and drove up there for 12 years, so I know what real snow driving is. I would recommend these to anyone looking for an improvement over the terrible stock dunflops, stock size or not.

What kind of milage hit are you seeing? I ask because I'm a month or two away from running your exact setup (Lift/Tire). Are you judging from the truck's milage display or calculating it to account for the %diff in tire size?

I am just going by the Mileage display. I know it is not accurate, but the difference in tire size is only approx. 3% So if I did the math and added 3%, it would only be an extra 9 miles for every 300 miles on the odometer. It might only be 1-2MPG. I get less miles on a tank than I got before even if I added in the 3%. Sorry I don't have exact figures. I get right at or less than 300 miles per tank (post lift & tires), but it does spend some time in the carpool line 4 afternoons a week. My mileage display reads between 15.5 and 17.5 on any given tank, 300 miles or less to empty. I also compare it to my 04 stock 2wd with stock size tires which reads 19 -21MPG. The mileage display reads 380-400 to empty per tank.
