new rotors/please help

Hi all.

My 06 Sport v8 102k(1.5" wheel spacers,nitto grapplers,stock wheels,5100s all around)started giving me unpleasant rides .
I had seized(driver front) caliper and changed it to new one about 2 month ago.
since then it starts to pull to the right when i brake(hard and not).I then changed pads for new ones(oem pads)since they wore uneven due to seized caliper.It never helped.2 weeks ago i completely flushed brake system and changed 2 front brake line hoses for OEM as well.It never helped.

i am now assuming that since i have bought a car 5 years ago and never changed rotors,that might solve the issue of pulling to the right when i brake,slight vibration of steering wheel when i brake or drive on highway speeds.


I have searched this forum for options on what rotors are good and what are not,and got kinda lost due to the amount of options prices and etc...

I found these on amazon .the price is great,but i dont know if its worth it,

I don't think you need cross-drilled or slotted rotors on these rigs, although they do look better. I bought Centric brand rotors from Amazon for my rig and they were great...until one of my front calipers seized.

The garage that noticed my caliper was seized replaced both calipers and rotors with NAPA stuff and the NAPA rotors are already completely covered in rust, whereas my rear rotors (which are also the Centric) are still rust free after 18 months because they have the e-coating.

I also saw some cross-drilled and slotted rotors which were only $15 more per axle than the regulars, so why not?

the difference between centric regular and slotted is not that big.I just need someone to tell me if they are worth to buy ,someone who tried them already.IF no one did ,ill try them and get back here with the report.

Did you only change one caliper? If so that is most likely your pulling problem. You should change them in pairs.

Your brake pulsation could be the rotors. You can resurface what you have or buy new. Drilled and slotted rotors will do very little unless you are doing some serious braking that you need to eliminate brake fade caused from high temps. The do look cool, but you can't resurface them and they tend to be expensive.

I think the rotors that are on right now are not good enough for resurfacing ,i own the car for 5 years and i got it when it was 50k on it ,so i dont think previous owner changed rotors at 50k,i didnt change those for sure too.the price difference is not huge and i have to tow around 4000 pound sometimes ,so i think ill just buy those blacked out rotors from amazon ,comes to around 50$ a rotor!!!!

Check out Powerstop rotors. I had them installed after I had my SW bumper and sliders put on and the difference between them and OEM is night and day. Mine are slotted but the braking ability is amazing. Theres is zero mush on the brake pedal.

I completelly agree with Range comment above! I was too considering MaxBrakes rotors and pads but found very little reviews online, so I passed. Instead I got Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors and Evolution ceramic pads kit for upfront and I love them so far! They are well reviewed on this forum and now I can see why. Stopping power greatly improved.
I went with 338 mm rotors this time since I was replacing calipers and went with the bigger ones.

calipers should be changed as a set. otherwise you can experience issues like you are now. pulling and such.

your rotors may be fine. have them checked for thickness, they may still be able to be resurfaced.

yep. this.

im not sure about other shops, but I have resurfaced many slotted/drilled rotors over the years. it is a little harder on the blades, but they turn out good.

You must be a brave man to cut drilled or slotted rotors. I have seen some nasty chewed up rotors from people that have tried. I definitely don't want to be on the receiving end of the rotor fragments of one that grenades at several hundred rpm.

its not too bad taking a light cut. you can hear it hit the openings, but other than that, it cuts like normal.

other than the excess blade wear, ive never been too concerned cutting them.

I didnt think it was worth it to bother with the drilled or slotted rotors though I do like how they look. I went with Centric Premiums and they have been great so far.

im using stoptech slotted rotors front and back (centric brand) and they seem a better product than the brakemotive slot and drilled i had, i was using ebc pads both green and then the yellows, they dust alot, i did get the outer pad wore more than the inner pad when i had the yellows on the brakemotive rotors, thats when i switch to the stoptech and using hawk lts pads and it was a better choice for me, less brake dust.

I have used to Stoptech stuff for years. Used it on Subarus, Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas, cars, vans, trucks you name it. Always been good and cant beat the price shipped off Amazon or Rock auto

i went to powerstop web site selected vehicle and entered zip for locations to buy them and it gave me no results.nowhere else i can find powerstop rotors,no on amazon,ebay,google(except for their website without prices )

can anyone provide a link where to buy them online?

I only use Powerslot Slotted rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads on everything I own. I do not use crossdrilled. I have been running Hawk HPS brake pads and Powerslot Slotted rotors for over 20 years. All my vehicles stop shorter in all conditions also when used hard on or off road. I have this combo on my Dodge Charger SRT8, my T4, and my Pre-Runner, plus many many friends and customer cars. One thing I will say though, not everyone needs this high performance system. I dont put this system on every car I touch. Only the ones who, after much discussion feel they need this system. There are so many opinions out there and so many manufactures to choose from, its easy to get confused.
The biggest thing I can tell you is how you take care of your braking system and how you prep the brake system prior to installing any manufacture of brake products is as important as the brands itself. Ive witnessed many folks screw up perfectly good high performance rotor and pads by not doing their homework and properly prepping the system, and consequently not maintaining the system throughout the pads and rotors life span. :cheers:

i'm replacing my front rotors for the first time at 109000 miles including new pads. I previously replaced the pads around 60000 miles and during that time, the rotor was still good.

now, rotors are so rusty that replacing both will be the way to go. I ordered it at rockauto and the brand I decided is beck/arnley rotors and the ceramic akebono pads. check this out for Beck/Arnley rotors. I find it well made. TRUE | Metal? - Rotors & Drums
