I purchased a Scanguage about 3 weeks ago & dudes & dudettes, I gotta say I love it. It's on a 99 Limited and it's really shown me how to drive & more impressively has shown that I have way more gas left than I ever thought when factory gauge reads empty.
First I want to say that I'm Canadian & am speaking in metric when it comes to the scangguage as that's how I set it up. But I'm a pre-metric kid, so I still think in miles & gallons. So I may reference both, try & stay with me.
I have always tracked my mileage with the fuelly website just to keep track of how everything is running, as gradual loss of fuel economy is an indicator of possible trouble. Always have held a 17 - 19 mpg average.
When I got scan gauge I set parameters to measure tranny temp, coolant temp, real-time Litres/100km & avg litres/100km. Now I drive to try to keep the real-time consumption under 11litres/100km (approx 20mpg). My last fuelly entry I got 20.3 mpg ( i can do better than that?) This is the attitude the Scangauge gives me.
I live in the mountains, so on our highways the gauge sometimes goes to 70LHK but on the other side of the hill it registers 0LHK. It's a great thing because pre scangauge I just didn't have the real-time knowledge of consumption, it's awesome.
I live about 20 miles from work. My home is at 600 feet above sea level & my work is at 2600. So going to work I average 13.9 LHK and coming home around 7.5LHK. This feature is a bonus for me as I just bypassed the OEM tranny cooler after I rebuilt the tranny (another story) so I got the gauge mainly to monitor tranny temp.
The big surprise however is that after the 3rd fill-up (I thought the tank was empty) I filled up the tank, did a "tank to empty" reading and it said I had 28litres left or 255km. That can't be right? I filled up and sure enough put in 42 litres & I didn't even have to adjust the gauge, it knew to the 10th of a litre how much gas was used.
I love this thing... Normal tranny temp now is 140 - 160*F & Normal Coolant temp is 195 - 200*F
