Go online. There are a few Toyota dealerships that sell these for as little as $790. I let the Toyota dealership I purchased my 2011 from that I would only buy the vehicle if I could get it at their cost. This was after I had made my offer for the 2011. They sold it to me for $700. That is the Platinum plan, 0 deductible. These things have tremendous mark ups. I paid $1700 for the one on my Lexus, and Lexus dealerships were asking as high as $3500. I also got $6000 off the sticker price for the 2011. It was the last workday of the month and their sales had been real slow. Do not pounce on the first thing they offer and don't let them tell you what they want. Research and find the cost, then make your offer. You may not get it all of the time but with a little effort you can get a very good price. When I went to the dealership I took a copy of the online offer to prove the price. The finance managers earn their money by how much they can extract from you.

Can you share the online source from which you got the copy of the offer? Also, how many years/miles is your $700 coverage for? Thanks!

I fell for it once you take a chance either way, the refund is a small prorated amount not the purchase price so you are gambling either you buy the warranty and nothing breaks or you do t buy it and something does go wrong. I haven bought the warranty in a long time I did on my 03 and it now has 290k and has never had a problem so on the 07 and all three 11s that we have I passed on the warranty. I use the cars for my business so we add miles very fast about 60k per year on each car so far we haven't had any problems because the miles happen so fast but it's also a Toyota hell, I still see my old 95 4runner from high school sometimes I sold it to my uncle when I was 19 it has over 500k on it now and the only major replacement so far was the rear end. These things last forever

Extended Toyota Warranty

Got my quote from Greenfield Toyota, (Troy Dietrich) and found out their actual cost to them was $700. I had dealt with Troy on an couple of other vehicles over the past few years. Showed online quote, plus told them if their cost was more than 700 show it to me in writing. They just wrote it up for $700, gave them a check and in about a week I got the plan from Toyota. They faxed it to Toyota that day and I got my contract in the mail. Not saying it will happen all the time, but they were very interested in my business and never countered with any other price on my offer for the new 4 RUNNER or the extended warranty. I had previously bought two other vehicles from this dealership and got good deals in the past, but this one was by far the best and there was absolutely no haggling.

Buying an extended warranty is almost always a loosing scenario. However, if you like the peace of mind, go for it!

Everyone's situation is different. I've had extended warranties on both of the SUV's I had previous to my 4R, and in both cases, the warranties more than paid for themselves over time. Then again, I tend to keep trucks for 10+ years...so the warranties are worth it to me.

Just in case those thinking about Toyota Extended Warranty don't know, one does not have to purchase it when you purchase your 4Runner (unless Toyota has changed the rules since 2007). I purchased my extended warranty about one month before the standard 36 month warranty expired. I found a dealer in the western part of Pennsylvania that sold me the Toyota Platinum Warranty for about $800 less than my dealer offered almost three years prior.

In my case, the extended warranty more than paid for itself in the repairs that it paid for in years 4, 5, 6 & 7.
Funny how nothing needed to be fixed during the initial factory (36 month) warranty period.

My 2011 TE KDSS is my first new car. Paid $1900 for the 75k extended. I may have been taken for a bit of a ride but still feel good being pretty worry free.

Extended Toyota Warranty

In the US the extended warranty is prorated when you no longer own the car, as long as you never used the warranty. If it was used for repairs then you do not get anything back. I have sold back 4 different warranties over the past 15 or 16 years. Yes, the extended warranty is negotiable. It depends on your dealer and how bad they want to sell the car. I got mine for dealer cost on my 2011 4 Runner purchase. I got the 7 year Platinum warranty for an even $700. It is unusual to get it that cheap. The online warranty guy I checked with wanted a couple of hundred more. Anything more than 900 for the 7 year/100,000 platinum plan is too much. The warranty are the finance managers bread and butter. I just happened to deal with the sales manager when making a proposal for the purchase. Just told them what I was willing to pay out the door and luckily they said OK.. Otherwise, I would have moved on to another dealer.

As long as the vehicle has less than 36,000 miles and is under 36 months old you can still purchase a toyota warranty?

Thanks to this blog we just saved over $1500 (over half) on our extended warranty on a new 2011 Toyota 4 Runner. :biggrin2:

We found out that Florida is a regulated state - meaning that the cost of extended warranties are controlled but that also means that it makes them sky high. We were quoted $2800 (plus 6.5% tax) for 8yr/125,000 - $0 deductible on a Fidelity Warranty (that’s the Toyota Factory Extra Care Platinum).

Thankfully we did our research, found this site, and found Jerry Johnson....we paid $1399.00 (no tax) for the SAME EXACT policy. How??? Because Jerry is a Toyota Warranty Manager at a Toyota dealership in Kansas, where there are no regulations like Florida. Also, because I don’t live in Kansas, I am not charged state tax. That's a whopping savings of $1583!!! And it was so easy. Just email Jerry at [email protected] or call 800-530-5789. He will need to know:

VIN Number
Make/Model
Year
Miles
Date of Purchase
Name/Address
Phone Number/Email

He is super nice and very responsive. He actually called us on a holiday at 6pm to ensure that we received his email. We love our new car and our savings on our extended warranty!!!

Fidelity Warranty Services is NOT Toyota's Extra Care. It is a THIRD PARTY WARRANTY run by Southeast Toyota. There are tons of complaints against this company and their contract has so many loopholes you can drive a Mack truck through it. (Yes, I was initially suckered into this warranty until I read the paperwork and researched them on Google.)

Toyota's warranty is NOT the exact same as Fidelity Warranty. You'll need to hire a contract lawyer to list out the differences, its that bad. The dealers that offer Fidelity Warranty make a ton of profit selling these things. I *****ed out my dealer for pushing this warranty on me and trying to claim its equivalent to Toyota's. It's not....at least I got my money back

I'm dubious of the "Florida is a regulated state" issue. Did your dealer tell you this? That $2800 is the "MSRP" of a typical Fidelity Warranty. The "regulated state" issue only means that Florida regulates Car extended warranty services like an insurance policy which has a higher standard. I don't believe there is any requirement on pricing.

I'll repeat it one more time because I feel its that important.

Fidelity Warranty Services is a THIRD PARTY WARRANTY.
It is NOT EQUAL to Toyota's Extended Warranty's.
