New to me 4runner waterfall noise

Hey guys,

Ive been searching and heard some things about this waterfall noise behind the dash which could be the heater core with coolant or a bad head gasket. I do have the V6 with 185,000 which I just picked up and noticed the coolant res was low. No other problems with starting or engine lights, but would like to confirm that this noise isnt going to be a problem. Should I get a compression test done? or do you think its just coincidence that the coolant res level is low and I hear the waterfall behind the dash on startups.

I don't believe in coincidences like that...

No rough idle right when you start up? And how does the coolant smell?

I just had to replace mine at 160k.

What year is your 4r?

Its an 05 and I have not had any rough idles. I havent smelled the coolant yet but I assume normal would be sweet and not normal would be?

The coolant will smell funky, kinda with a gasoline odor to it if you have a real issue.

I have a 2006 V6 and I have been hearing a waterfall noise behind the dash almost every time I start the car cold. No rough idles and no drop in the coolant level. Sometimes when I stop at a light for a couple minutes then hit the accelerator I hear a second or two of the same waterfall noise. What could this be??

I have an '04 and hear it when I start up, as well.
(not every time)
I just figured it was coolant/water running through the heater.

I haven't heard it in my 4Runner, but in other cars it sounds like if someone flushed a toilet on the second floor of your house and you are on the first floor near the pipes and hear the water running through the pipes. Literally sounds like water rushing through a pipe.
