New to the board, looking at a 4runner, is this a good deal?

I live about 40 minutes away from this, looking to trade my 98 Acura CL for this.. My acura has actually been giving me more issues than i want to deal with and I always loved these trucks. Are there common issues, or any year specific issues to the 99 that I should look for?

Well the timing belt should probably be changed soon. Most of the time it's every 90,000, but that timing belt is getting kind of old in my opinion, I could be wrong though.

I would also check the rear axle seals.

The price seems a little high considering the current economy, it does have low miles though.

Gorgeous truck, with the brush guard to boot! If you take it for a test drive and it feels right, and a trusted mechanic gives it the okay, I'd take it. 66k is really low miles for a 99. my 98 has nearly double the mileage.

The carfax report shows that it was in a front collision with a guard rail, and had to be towed from the site. the dealer bought it at auction. I would be weary about that...

i didnt even see that thanks man! so they most likely picked it up at auction for like 6 grand haha. the ad even says price reflects $2000 cash or trade, thats WAY to high if thats the case... a gas guzzling suv during a recession should be selling way under book.

It's not super bad on gas like you would think. It is also very capable.

Not sure what your talking about on gas mileage, my 99 limited gets at best 17MPG on the highway and closer to 14 in the city. Sounds like a good deal...as posted above, if it drives nice I would buy it...

Thats BIG time bargaining room there man, go look at it and if you like it then get it. As far as the timing belt, alot of people go way beyond 100K with no problems. Bring a copy of that report with you :bigok:

now, $8500, and that would probably be a deal. It almost sounds like they have already taken the $2000 trade, or cash down, off the actual asking price. So that means they are really askin $2k more than the advertised price.

Is yours stock? If so, that's way too low. I used to get ~21MPG on the highway and 17 in the city. Perhaps your O2 sensors are gone, MAF dirty, etc. You should be getting the same as I am.

Totally stock and the motor is in flawless condition. Brand new MAF, Plugs, Plug wires, oil change, water pump, etc. etc. It might not be a bad idea to replace the O2 sensor but take a look in the gas mileage thread, many of the people there are reporting the same crappy mileage I am getting and I drive like a total grandma. Any ideas to improving my gas mileage are much appreciated seeing how gas went back up here today :bash:

dude i would pick that up in a heart beat. drive it first, i'm sure it will drive awesome, then i'd get an independent inspection done on it. 66 k is nothing to worry about in general, especially not a 4runner, and as for the previous front end collison, the independent inspection should reveal whether or not its an issue. i would suggest SGS, they're cheap and do a good job. GO FOR IT!
