Didn't end up going through with the sale. It was a little tougher than he disclosed and he didn't know when some major maintenance had been done to it. Also wouldn't break 7k.
I'm heading up to Greenville tomorrow hopefully to check out a few.
I found one with less than 90k on it I would really like to start my build on something with such low miles. The only issue is they are asking 10k for it.
What would be a fair asking price for a 2000 sr5? paint and interior are both 9/10 but no lockers.
I was thinking my cap would be 8500 just because I know I'll have that thing for a long freaking time.

Finally decided on a runner. I am going to be buying the original one that this thread opened with! I called the guy and we talked a cash offer and were able to come to a deal. I will be picking it up on Monday.
180k on the odo, limited, trans cooler bypass already done, and has a center diff lock.
Pretty happy with the deal I'm getting it for way less than anything else I've gone to see and I have seen and driven it already.
Will be buying sonoran steel 1.2 kit, hopefully some newer t4r off road rims with some ko2s on them, and maybe a rear bumper to start it out.

Question: right now i am trying to compare the sonoran steel 1.2 with the toytec BOSS system with the HD & superflex coils.
which one is better? ill be DDing with it and ill have bumper and winch weight.
what are the advantages and disadvantages for each?

I've got the 1.2 on my dd 96, installed 2009. It's got about 85,000 miles on it. I replaced the rear shocks (overdue) last summer. I'll be replacing the front shocks in the coming year (not overdue). Steve is now using a different rear shock for the 1.2, so far I like it better.
I like the 1.2 a lot and the husband agrees so the dd 99 is getting the 1.2 rebuildable. He would get the 1.2 but felt the radflos had a bling factor that appealed to him and the black Friday deal didn't hurt.
Sonoran's customer service is tops.
Most of my driving is on pavement. Sometimes I do moderate rated wheeling and a tiny bit rated difficult. Fun stuff..
I don't know a thing about the Toytec Boss.
Spending awhile daily driving and wheeling the 96 stock plus reading lots of other people's opinions on what they had gave me time to really decide what I wanted.

i think ill end up going with the BOSS kit.
i will need to get the heavy springs for it because of the bumper weight.
the question is will i be ok just getting the heavier springs and driving it for a little without any heavier bumpers on it?
I am trying to decide whether or not to do bumpers before i do rims and tires.
also, as someone who is not very experienced with working on vehicles, how much of an undertaking is putting the new suspension and diff drop on. it seems pretty striaght forward. i will also want to do the ball joints while i in there.

Picked up the 4runner today. Drove up through Charlotte then came down the scenic route. got to teach my wife how to drive in the snow a little bit which was pretty exciting since she is from SC and had never attempted it.
First thing tomorrow after insurance and registration are taken care of i will be taking it to my mechanic to get the timing belt/water pump taken care of, and to just do a pre-trip inspection as i will be moving in a couple days and i want to make sure the trip goes as smooth as it can.
Once the move is complete i will be purchasing some gear for it, here is the list for the first wave of work to be done (Hopefully by me)

i will also be doing the 231mm tundra brake upgrade as well depending on how well the rest of the work goes before too long.
If you have any advice or suggestions PLEASE let me know, i am very open to opinions and would like to hear from people that have been doing this for a while since this is the first time ill be building something up.

Light buckets enable lights to be installed in the bumper. Might be nice since the stock reverse lights are a bit...dim. I didn't get them because my aux back-ups are on the back of my roof rack.
Also consider getting a set of Sonoran Steel's rear body mounts to go with that rear bumper.
Sounds like a nice plan is coming together quickly.

I really like the savage off road bumpers I just wanted something that had a beefier look to them. And I really like the price of 4x innovations. I am still considering a cbi hybrid right now though because I can get a winch with one at a good price.

Been driving the new runner a few days now and getting a feel for it. Everything is working good. I had to do the timing belt, and water pump on it but now now I'm good on that for another 90k. I decided go ahead with rims and tires. The tires on it were older and since I have a long road trip coming up I would like to have peace of mind, and It was on the list anyway.
I got some KO2s and some MBM wheels. The wheels had fake bead lock studs which were immediately removed.
I also got a new alpine head unit so I could use Bluetooth and listen to my own music while driving. It was a fun first head unit install/ first project for me and went down without any major issues.

i am going to wait a couple months and save up for some different bumpers i think. i reallly like CBI's rear hybrid bumper. it is damn expensive but i think once i get it on there i wont really care. then i figured match it with the hybrid front as well, especially because right they are running a deal with a Warn winch when you buy one. it will hurt but i think my wife will forgive me when she sees them on there ( or she wont and they will still be on there).

Just, ordered the sonotran steel 1.2 kit with the rebuildable 2.5's. they will be here in a few weeks.
Now for something of the utmost importance... seat covers. Im thinking about some sweet Carhartt Duckweave covers. If they are like the jackets they should be bullet proof.

Does anyone know a good mechanic in MD near fort Meade. I think I'm going to put on the sonoran steel kit myself. But I would like to get some quotes just for information's sale. I checked one place called adrenaline off road but they quoted me about 6-7 hours so about 770 plus an alignment which seems like way too much.
