Vegas-SDRunner

New member
Hi I am new to this forum, I am also new to forums period, I just felt it would be a good way to get information and what I could do to fix up my 1987 4runner. I just bought an 87 runner with the 22r and 5 speed sr5, in good shape, I haven't even registered it yet. I just put a cat and muffler in it. I would like to maybe put a better exhaust in it later, header, flowmaster or magnaflow, want it to sound beefy, not tingy, any suggestions? What about a chip? what about bumpers and nerf bars? I live in Las vegas Nv. I will be adding to this, so any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

It's hard to make this engine sound beefy, they usually sound really raspy, ricey or like there is a ton of holes in the entire exhaust. What it is going to come down to is a good combintation of cat and muffler. Which one you want for what you want? I don't know.
Forget about any performance chips, nothing short of a stand alone fuel injection system will net any additional power. The stock ECU is very finicky and not very tuneable without either a stand alone, or a fuel/timing calibrator (like Split Second makes).

Nerf bars (get rock sliders that weld on!) and bumpers are very common and easily found.
