I just purchased a 2004 KZ 20C hybrid travel trailer; my TV will be my
2005 2WD V6 4R. The weight of the trailer is no problem, everything went fine on a short test tow today. Based on what I read here and other places I know I need some upgrades for good towing and safety. I have several questions I could use some help with.
The 4R is equipped with the 500/5000 hitch and 7 pin plug. I also "Service Connector for towing brake controller" that was mentioned in the Owners Manuel, but no mention of what type of Brake Controller to use nor could I find a Toyoda OEM Brake Controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 seems to be a favorite here and what I plan to order. I have two questions, on the eTrailer site, they offer several wiring harnesses for this unit. Given the 4R is already wired for the 7 pin plug and I have "Service connector" to plug in under the dash on left side which harness should I get with the P3. It seems that you guys disconnect the BC when not in use, is there a down-side on leaving it plugged in all the time? I plan on using the extra fuse cover trick, but where does it disconnect? Also, I know shit about wiring and will blow up my 4R if I attempt it, will my Toyoda service department be likely to install it for me.
I also want to install a transmission cooler, any recommendations as to brand, model, size etc.
Finally, the camper dealer didn't seem to think I needed a weight distribution system, the trailer hooked up and towed level and the 4R didn't squat. I do plan to put a sway bar(s) on, any thoughts there.
Any assistance greatly appreicated. BTW, this seems like a great Forum.
