newbie to this forum!!!Got a 96 4runner for free

You could also swap 5vzfe in it. If you Google 3.4 swap 101, there should be A LOT of info on Yotatech about swapping in a 5vzfe.

Would that even be worth it? Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge fan of the 5VZ for years. However, I see no point in tearing out a base engine to swap in the engine for a higher model when you could just buy that model to begin with. Engine mounts and wiring are totally different. That would not be a bolt-in deal. If you are going to go through all that work you'd might as well look into a V8. The 3RZ also has space in the engine bay for some nice turbo setups.

I found a low mileage non-distributor 3rz 2.7 engine but mine is a distributor type engine. Can that be swap without any modification or should I just look for the same type engine? Also any reputable shop or someone around Los Angeles area who can help me with my motor swap???

The 3RZ is equally as good as the V6, those V6 owners just don't realize it, and as an added bonus they are way easier to work on.

You'll love it.

Swapping a 3RZ to a 5VZ is a step sideways in power and reliability, and a step backwards in cool factor.

Also, out of curiosity, what all went into swapping the coils packs to the distributor? Just bolted right up or what?

My car is a distributor type originally, therefor I have to find a distributor type engine which took me long enough before I could find it, most on the market are coil type. From coil to distributor just wont work because the harness are different also the head for the coil type doesn't have the hole for the distributor. This is all new to me so it's a learning process, I normally wrench on volvo and older mercedes.
