Uh oh.
Well, I can't stand any speculation regarding the next gen 4Runner unless it's coming from the mouth of a Toyota official. Most of us know the next gen GX will be unibody. This is to do battle with Infiniti's JX. Sounds fine as far a business case. As an enthusiast, it sucks. but whatever.
Now the GX's future is in doubt (according to Autoblog and depending on how you interpret Lexus executive Vice President, Mark Templin's words), maybe that casts some doubt to the 4Runner's future being they are both now related. No one knows if 4R will continue as a BOF or unibody or if at all. Also, there is mention of LX's future as well. Not looking good either. When the Infiniti QX was released, I was surprised Lexus didn't counter with a rebadge of the Sequoia. Big luxurious people movers seem to do well (Escalade, QX, GL, etc), I can't imagine Toyota/Lexus ignoring this segment.
Anyway, this news surprises me.
