Thanks for the info. Glad to hear from someone with off-road experience with the non C or E load tires.
I've been doing a ton of reading on this and never thought I'd need to know so much about tires. But, I don't want to regret my tire purchase and/or have to buy new tires right away.
There's no "P" at the beginning of the tire numbers. Just 285/70/R17 116 Q. From what I'm reading, P = P-Metric and no P = Hard Metric or Euro Metric. Non P tires have a heavier load than P tires.
The C and E have LT at the beginning of the numbers, which is "Light Truck" metric. Sounds like LT tires are basically for carrying heavy loads or pulling large trailers. (probably stating the obvious here, but i'm a newbie
Having less ply seems like the negative of these tires, the positive is that they are 9 lbs lighter than the C and E, which I'm assuming results in better MPG and they probably are quicker off the line.
Would the concern with lighter tires, be blowing a tire or tearing a sidewall when off-roading or when towing? I don't think I'm going to be doing serious rock crawling, but who knows where this goes eventually. Probably better to have more versatile/durable tires...
