Nitto Trail Vs Goodyear Duratrac

As the Title displays I am deciding between those two tires in a 265-70-17. Just ordered Konig 6 shooters (17x8) and they should be here next week.

No lift planned in the immediate future as I have a 2013 LE and spend minimal time off-road. I might raise 2.5-3 sometime down the road.

From what I have read/viewed it seems the Nitto looks better but doesn't perform as well in the rain/snow. I live in WA and deal with a lot of rain and on a very rare ocassion snow. Typically we only get a couple days of a few inches of snow a year.

Go with the Duratracs. They will be much better on road, in the rain and great for any occasional off roading.

I guess having a poll like this is a good as a coin toss? :biggrin1: I don't have either tire; but I like the GoodYear MT/R Kevlar tires I have on my Jeep.

I ran the Duratracs on my 4Runner and loved them. So much so that they were the first tires I put on my Tundra. I am now running 35" Trail Grapplers and I love them, but you have a couple of things to think about here. The Trails are a mud terrain while the Duratracs are an all terrain. This means they are going to be loud, soft (so they chunk up), have a shorter life, and decrease your fuel economy more than the Duratracs. In my opinion there is not a better tire for the 4Runner that sees some trail duty than the Duratracs. The Trail Grapplers will spin mud out much quicker, but if you are not going boggin you likely will not notice.

You should add BFG AT KOs (C Rated) as an option. That's my vote.

I have no experience with the Nittos, but I did have Duratracs. I found they were good on snow/ice the first year I had them then they might as well have been all season radials after that. I personally would not buy them again for my needs.

I have a set of Trails but I bought them because they were $50 cheaper per tire over the Duratracs. (285/65/18 Trails vs 295/65/18 Duras)

My vote: Duratracs

The Duratrac is such a great tire. I have a lot of confidence in them on any terrain or what the weather may bring. Muddy trails and rocks to snow storms, wet or dry, on road or off, they've performed. So much so, that I have another new set stacked in a corner of my living room in my apartment lol.

I had Trail Grapplers and they performed really well on muds and rocks, though I noticed less traction on wet roads.

I have owned both. Duratracs on my Tacoma and the Nittos on my Tundra. For your driving needs I would go with the Duratracs. Ran them in Midwest winter and they didn't miss a beat. Great traction and a very good off pavement tire. The Nittos are a great tire but don't come close to the Duratracs for wet/snow driving. Good luck and post pics when you get the new meats mounted up!

I have been happier w/ the combination of on-road/off-road performance and Highway noise than any other AT/MT tire I've tried.
