No driver controlled Dome light??? Are you Kidding me!

37k car and no driver controlled dome light function!? you have to be kidding me.

So I am driving at night and got my kids in the 3rd row. I need to light up the car. Impossible to light up the back area. What to do? Pull off the highway and open my door to light up the car? Get a flash light and shine it back there?

1) no third row dome light. Cant see anything in the 3rd row.
2) no driver controlled dome light switch to light up the whole interior.

This is such crap. Almost a 40 k car and this wasnt thought about? Even my ****ty '93 SR5 had this. Even my '83 blazer had this.

I am slowly finding really crappy things about this vehicle......

The other? The radio freaking blows.

More? The nose dive is horrendous.

Yup. Took a test drive. Noticed the nose dive and looked past it. I didnt do the test drive at night in the woods to test the dome light issue.

Yes I ***** about things when you pay almost 40 grand on a car that doesnt even have basic functions that you would expect.

All these things were visible and noticeable while you were sitting in the parking lot before you spent a dime.

"Hey, where's the light over the third row?" "No light"
"Hey, how do I turn on the interior lights without opening the door?" "You can't"

Your failure to confirm the existence of these apparently major requirements makes it YOUR fault for buying the truck, not Toyota's for selling it that way.

Not to be an @$$ (No pun intended), but didn't you notice any of these issues during the test drive or before giving your pretty penny for this hunk of metal? Btw, you over-paid if you paid 40k for a SR5. Even though I agree, I feel like Toyota took a step back in the 5th Gen in certain areas, mostly for the sake of cost cutting.

Suggestions: Trade it in for a vehicle that had a adjustable dome light and one that statisfies your issues with this 4R (i.e. better radio/sound system), or simply wire one in a dome light and there are suspension mods you can do to notice the nose dive less (That's my next mod).

While I agree with you that there are a few items that SHOULD be installed on a $40k vehicle, at the end of the day it's up to you to ask the questions and thoroughly inspect the vehicle before you purchased. Without sounding harsh, you're not gonna get a lot of sympathy from the folks on here.

I'm so p'd off too. I didn't know my SR5 didn't have a V8 in it until after I bought it...:dammit:

its really easy to do make that a mod. i love how you have one of the best vehicles made, that will last you FOREVER yet you complain about things that are easily fixed.

BTW, I had a $37k Lancer Evolution 9 MR and it didn't have power seats, cruise control, or auto dimming mirrors and the radio was pretty much crap...but I didn't buy it for its interior. You bought one of the worlds most capable stock 4wd vehicles so you sacrificed some interior doodads, if you wanted all the bells and whistles ontop of the 4wd ability you should have done your homework and ponied up the 55k for a GX460.

You will not find any sympathy here.

I sympathize with the guy.

Not everybody notices every little thing during a test drive. Lets face it, things like dome lights (or a lack thereof) are something that most people don't even pay attention to during a test drive. I tend to concentrate more on how the vehicle drives/handles/brakes/shifts etc...than whether or not a dome light is present or has a switch to control it.

At the same time, when you find little things like this after you've purchased a vehicle, you always have the option of making small modifications to make the vehicle more suitable for you. Radio sucks? Replace it with an aftermarket unit. No dome light? Have one installed. Sure, you'd expect all the little things to be present in the first place, but if it really bothers you that much, spend a few bucks and fix it. That's certainly less expensive than dumping the vehicle for another one. And you certainly don't want to be annoyed by the little things that bother you.

I agree with DocMT, I doubt this was a major requirement in his purchase. I'm sure the majority of folks would assume this would be provided on a 35K+ vehicle. It would be more ridiculous to assume it wouldn't be provided.

I don't think he should be treated like a troll if he bought a 5th Gen 4Runner though...at least not a troll in the traditional sense..

He should be able to complain about the vehicle's shortcomings just as other praise it.

It's got a switch on it~! Very easy to reach up and turn it on unless your 3 ft tall with troll arms.....

Switch it towards the passenger side which is the opposite side if your sitting in the drivers seat.In case you can't read(obviously not because it's in the manual) they even put a symbol of a shining light on it especially for you.

You have no contribution to the forum except to complain about everything because you have no idea what you bought???

Easy guys!

There are a few things about the 5th. gen that are just annoying. I moved up from a 4th to 5th gen Limited and am still annoyed about the lack of memory seats. And actually I too did not think to even look for it during my test drive. Also did not notice the lose of the hidden compartment in the glove box. Annoyed that I had to pay extra for the crossbars, etc.

None a deal breaker - just annoying.

Let the guy vent. Love my 4Runner but its not perfect - better than the others but not perfect.
