I kept meaning to work on this. I want a seat belt on all the time when wheeling. There's been several occasions when we are on a easy part of a trail when something expected comes up and a disaster was inches or seconds away. Sliding backwards on snow/ice, just not paying attention and driving off the shoulder, mechanical failure, etc. The point is that for what we do seat belts are very important.
I really get irritated at the shoulder belt though. It restricts me from looking out the window and it chaffes when I'm driving in reverse. If I move the shoulder belt behind me then it keeps cinching up tighter until it's uncomfortable. I'd rather keep the shoulder belt on to help prevent my head from smashing into things in the case of a flop or rollover but it's really starting to bug me so I went to Jim's Used Toyota Parts today and picked up a thrashed seat belt to sew up into a lap belt. $10
After a little sewing here's the buckle side. All done
One end has a carabiner that rock climbers use. Makes it easy to take it out the rig if I ever want to.
It's so simple I feel stupid for not doing it a long time ago.
Clip it into the factory anchor.
