My vehicle has a little over 4k miles. I was investigating some noise that seemed to be tire noise with a low whomp,whomp,whomp sound coming from the rear while coasting/slowing from 40to30 mph. I had not noticed this before about 3900 miles (but it could have been there before). So I thought I'd check to see if I had thrown a weight. I found that there are no weights on the rear driver side wheel. These are stock tires and wheels and haven't been rotated by myself or touched by any dealer either. All other wheels have around 7-10 5gram weights. Is it even realistic to have 3 tires requiring that much weight and one requiring none? Made me wonder if somehow this one just didn't get balanced at the factory. Thanks in advance for any input?

Certainly could have, was just expecting to find some residual dust lines from wherever weights were.

Take it to Discount Tire.
They will balance the wheel for free in exchange for your remembering them when you but new tires. Which, BTW - I only buy from them.

It is possible that it required no weight to balance. When I installed some Toyo AT2's on a F150 I once had, 2 of the tires required no weight and the other two only required about an 1 oz. Those tires were smooth as glass on the freeway.

I got on the ground today and did find some weights mounted on the inside of the wheel on all 4 wheels. So I was wrong in saying there was no weight on that wheel and it obviously was balanced, just no stick-ons. But still no evidence of missing weight. Just gonna take it into get the balance checked, it's definitely louder and vibrates more than it should.
Wish I had a discount tire near me. Closest one is an hour and a half away. Although if I decide to get some Falken AT3W's, I'll probably direct order from them.
Easy now, if they were stolen, it happened in the hills of Tennessee on its first road trip, just sayin...

Got the balance checked today, road force machine.
LF - 20lbs, adjusted to 14 lbs
RF - 13 lbs
LR - 10 lbs
RR - 3 lbs
So none were bad out, and the worst of the bunch was able to be improved. On a positive note, the oft-reported 60-65mph steering wheel wobble I'd noticed since day one is gone, and the truck wanders/pulls a little less. Still a little unbalanced road noise between 30-40 mph but better and tolerable. Time to turn up the radio and drive.
On a side note, two of my wheel caps were dented/scratched up by the tech. I know it's not a huge deal as they're ordering a couple new ones, but it just further cements my decision to never let my truck see the dealer or any shop for maintenance, free is just not free. Nobody cares about your vehicle as much as you do, and it shows.

Yeah. I always take off things like caps whenever I go to the tire store. Not saying I've ever had an issue with that specifically, but I figure minimize risk where possible.
I am a picky ___hole when it comes to things like that so figure I'll just save the heartache.
Along the same lines as if any one of my vehicles ever has to go into the dealer for warranty work, the service writer is going to note any and all damage on the invoice. Got burned on that before with my pristine M3 (and a nice door ding when I picked it up after a warranty repair and never again...).
Yeah, I'll definitely take center caps off in the future. We did a thorough walkaround beforehand, so they were at least immediate in taking me back in and getting them ordered, no trying to make excuses. I will just never understand the lack of pride people take in their work. Alright, getting off soapbox now.

It usually happens from whoever balances the tire not cleaning the wheel well enough when using sticky weights.
Also cheap sticky weights have crappy adhesion.
As far as pound on weights is very uncommon to throw them off unless they are directly hit OR don't fit correctly in the first place. There are many pound on weights shapes for all types of wheels, it's up to the person installing the weight to chose the correct style/shape.

Precisely. They will stick like a cub to a mother bear if the inner rim is clean (which they aren't unless you are anal like me and clean them when you rotate your tires) but dirty with brake dust and crap - recipe for falling off.
Recommendation: If you are going to the tire store wash the inside of the rims. They won't. ;-)

Could be balance weight is not required.
When installing new tires you are supposed to line up the paint dot with your valve stem. Years ago when I used to race I went through 4 sets of Toyo RA1 R comp tires for my rx7. Only 2 out of the 16 tires required balance weights. The rest balanced perfect.
