noise coming from gas tank

The first time I went to fill up my tank in my SR5 2013 the gas tank makes this constant noise. See attached video...any ideas?2013 SR5 4Runner gas tank noise - YouTube

Was the engine running? If so maybe the fuel pump?

Don't know but mine does it to.

If your engine was running then it is your fuel pump. Mine does it with the engine running but does not if the engine is off.

I have filled up a LOT of different vehicles with the engines running and never heard a sounds like the 4R makes! I dove for my ignition the 1st time I heard it. It never gets filled running since.

Sounds like a black hole is about to suck you into it :mad2: I believe my Tundra makes the same sound, experience with the 4R keeps me shutting off the ignition every time I fill up now so I am not 100% sure.

Filling with the engine running is NEVER recommended EVER. There's a sign that says "shut your engine off before refueling" at every station I've ever been to. Safety first.
In Oregon you can't even pump your own gas. The attendant would not refuel a running vehicle.

Not only that,the sound he's hearing is most likely the pump on the carbon canister for emissions as it's in the back in Toyotas, not the fuel pump, that is supposed to be sucking fumes and he's flooding it with raw fuel and will destroy the canister over time at the tune of around $400 plus labor for the canister assembly.

Why do you fill with the engine running anyway?

Filling tank while engine is running can also cause a "check engine" light to trigger..........EVAP leak.
