Recovered and home....

Just want to say thanks to Kraze and Kurtis. Well this was a pain in the A!

After breaking the 8k come-along we knew we needed more and bigger stuff. The straps we had just had to much stretch in them so it was off to Harbor Freight because it was the only thing open today. Bought 3 more 8k come-a longs and two HD Trucking chains. Broke all but one of C.A.'s. The chain we a life saver. Kurtis ran them up the hill and tied off on a large rock as an anchor point. While the other was on the back of the truck.

After 5.5 hours of slow movement and digging the truck level so it would not roll on us we finally got this thing off the Mt side safe.

Did you have any luck finding traction by airing down those street tires? And do you have a locker?

I Aired down to 10psi and nothing. It was just give away under me. And I do have the Elocker in my truck.

This is so awesome, its what I love about this forum, guys are so willing to help out and lend a hand even to a guy who they don't know or have never met... If I was closer if be right there too. -i do agree with the not posting where this is until you have the truck, for said reasons. But if good standing members and interactive members are offering to help I.would see no issues with accepting their help. The way I look at it, of you go up with 3 rigs and only need one, well everyone had a good time and a time to get to know each other, but if you only go up with one rig and end up needing one or two more your gonna be screwed.

You are spot on man! It is the love of our trucks that bring us together. I would do the same. I have nothing going on, ROAD TRIP and Recovery time.

Can't same enough to the guys that rolled out early to help me with this. We were on the trail by 8am and wrapped it up a 2. Some of that time was to get bigger equipment.

And that's crazy, the dirt must be a lot softer than it looks. I would have thought that aired down and locked would pull you out of that.

I know pics never do it justice, but I don't see what was so precarious in that situation. Given two recovery rigs and no winches, I would have strapped the front to the heavier of the two recovery trucks which I would have parked as high on the hill as possible, set the ebrake and chocked the stink out of all four wheels - if I could make that strap come off the front of the stuck truck at 90 degrees that'd be perfect. I would have strapped the uphill side of the rear to another truck behind and used that truck to pull with the stuck vehicles' front wheels turned hard passenger (yes, downhill). With the rear truck pulling and the front truck stationary, the pendulum effect of the strap on the front would have sucked you up right back up on the road, and as long as your straps come off the high side of the stuck rig there's minimal chance it'll roll.

Glad everybody made it out safe! Props to the fellows who came out to help with the recovery.

It was soft as F bro. just walking on it we were slipping. Shane's Rig was sliding also and that thing has grip for DAYS with the 35 BFG's.

I wouldn't even call it dirt. Sand would actually be more accurate. It was next to impossible to get another vehicle infront of Blue's rig with anything short of a helo drop. It was on a dirtbike/horse/foot path. Believe me we thought about it and agreed it would have been the best way to recover but it just wasn't happening.

I saw the pictures last night and even knowing that pictures don't do it justice I was still surprised at what the pictures couldn't tell when we got there this morning. It was at least 300 ft before the truck would stop rolling if it did go and it was close enough that I would stop what I was doing and repick my line in any situation.

I called Road Side Assistance(USAA) and they said "We do not go off road, how can we get there if you had 4x4"? LOL.

The one tow company that came to look was like, "I thought I could just drive up there with the F550 and get you, I need something else, I know a guy that has a rock crawler recovery rig". You know you are Fed then.

Looking at the initial pictures that Blue sent me, I thought this would be a decently easy recovery. As we all know, pictures are usually not a completely accurate representation of the true situation, and sure enough, as soon as we got up there, I realized this wouldn't be easy at all. I want to say Thanks to Blue Dog also. He called me at 11 something last night I think it was. Blue"Just call me and I will fill up, Throw the dog in the truck and be there in an hour to help man, just the the rest of the guys did too"
