I'm glad to see you made it out ok. I got my old scout stuck outside of a ghost town here in CA called Bodie. Same kind of conditions...the dirt is dry and has the consistency of baby powder. I flooded the carburator and had to camp for the night.
Fortunately I had another car to spot me, a winch and a dual battery set up so I was able to get out eventually, but it is a crappy feeling.

you're gonna want to hop on the 73 south, hit the 5, go all the way to the 905 east, over to 125 south and when you get to highway 2D, take a left. (you might have to hop a fence)...

Thanks man. I was above Sun City(West side of town). There is a Mt top there, well you know the rest of the story. Just so glad it did go down the side of the 1850ft. hill. You can see all of Canyon Lake up there and the IE on a clear day.

That sucks, There is nothing out in Bodie either, Is there even a general store there? While I was in the Marines we trained out that way and up in the Mts in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport isn't even much of a town frankly, but yes. You are pretty much on your own out in Bodie. It was definitely worth the visit but tahoe is much closer and more forgiving for these 4x4 trips. Thanks for your service by the way and happy memorial day!

Went up and rescued a fellow in almost exactly the same situation yesterday, except he was on loose shale instead of sand and there were no anchor points anywhere. We ended up digging trenches to track him back onto the trail, and burying rebar uphill of him to put snatch blocks on so the winches could backstop him and be sure he didn't tumble.
He drove out under his own power, with the winch lines acting as pendelums to swing him to safety.

I'm telling you, there are not many times where I was like oh F this is bad, but feeling your truck slide down a steep embankment is a shitty feeling because you can't do anything at all about it.
That is pretty steep also you can tell from the background.
Glad you guys got it off with out it going down.

To all that helped out,i have never been in that kind of situation but i would have done the same and get some help rather than losing the rig.This is the reason why no one should go wheeling alone no matter how experienced you are coz shite like this do happen on the trail.Glad all the rigs got out safely.

Damn it i can't wait til I get the opportunity to help out on a recovery. I almost got the chance when a buddy from the forums texted me to tell me he was in a sticky situation. He ended up choosing to pay a $500 fee for a recovery. I was so determined to stop on my way up and get ropes, come alongs or whatever tools (probably could find a used winch with a hitch cradle for that much), then that way you have something to show for those $500 but he went the other route damn it lol.
If anyone in the denver area or surrounding trails needs help keep me in mind. my PM's go to my phone just so you know. great job on the recovery guys and its truly amazing how complete strangers can be there for each other i love this site

If it's one thing I hate as much as mud, it's loose rock especially when you're rig is open diff fr/rr. It still is difficult even when you're dual locked. I ended up against a tree a while back cus of that loose crap. I call those kinds of rocks around here "kitchen plates" cus when you pick them up and throw them against other rocks they sound like you shattered a plate from your kitchen lol.
