Go with the nittos cheap and good you should be able to get 5 for 800 out the door. I have the firestone A/T because I went to 285 and nittos dont come in 8ply only 10. I like the firestones to but nitto has alwayse been my first choice. BFG sucks overpriced junk and they suck in the rain. I had 2 sets of them and 4 sets of nittos 1 set of Firestones and 1 set of geolanders which I will never buy again.
 
I agree with Thai , no AT tire is really good in mud. They just don't clean out well. Granted some may do a little better than others .

When you get into real goo mud , yikes , you might as well be driving on an oil covered road.
 
I would go for the BFG Krawler where I was in mud.........even then mud is like glass not to mention lots of FUN.
 
What's with the thread resurrection?!? Anyways, I had my heart set on the GY Wrangler Silent Armors in the 265/70/17 size. I recently logged onto Tire Rack and they have them in my stock size now!!! So that makes my decision even more clear now because I wanted to stay with the stock size. I'm pretty excited (although I won't be getting them until probably the end of the year).
 
I've had the GYSA's since last fall and they are simply incredible. Not only do they handle whatever you throw at them (snow, mud, water, etc), but they are tough as nails. I've hit some pretty nasty potholes at speed, and have really been surprised that they've come out without even a mark. Seems like the sidewalls are bullet proof. Must be the kevlar!

The sidewall of GY SA does NOT have kevlar...the kevlar is only in the tread area. The sidewall of GY SA is two-ply but with a special compound to make them more tear resistant (Durawall). The kevlar in the tread is pretty cool though! Durawall is good, but it is not as strong as BFG AT KO's 3-ply sidewall. This is why the off-road-oriented Goodyear MT/R has Durawall AND 3-ply sidewall.

A fellow G500 owner took his G off-road and he has GY SA (P-rated). Small mud puddles filled the tread area and made it smooth like glazed dounuts. I think that GY SAs are great, but in real nasty mud, they are pretty much like other good AT tires...not particularly effective. But, for the mild off-roader, i think that GY SA is one of the best AT tire out there (if not the best), along with Michelin LTX A/T-2.
 
Depending on what type of driving you do, each tire has their positives. As far as a very good overall tire you can not beat the REVOs. They are more of an onroad tire but work well offroad. If you go off road a lot, or tow, you can get the light truck "E rated" Revo.

You can read the ratings of real world owners on the Tirerack web site for each tire. This will give you a good idea of how each tire works in different conditions.

my 265/70/17 GYSA did rub at full lock and I don't have any type of lift. My vote is for the Revo's if you are mostly on forest service roads and the like.

Hey Falls,
Actually answered your private message regarding the tires about a month ago. Overall, I like them but they rubbed just a little and I found the slight decrease in mileage to be unacceptable considering where gas prices where heading last Nov. I really only drive forest service roads and snowy/slushy conditions in winter so I feel that the revo's are the better tire choice for me. If I needed a more aggressive tire, then I wouldn't hesitate putting these back on. If I can't sell them in the next few weeks then I will put them back on anyways because my revo's are almost finished and the 4runner is almost paid off so I don't care as much about the gas mileage if that and insurance are all I am paying for.
 
Count me in for 4 more Revos!

I've got 54k now on my set of Revos. They have been a perfect tire - no problems and not even a flat! I tow a 25' travel trailer, and occasionally go off-road. They have taken me through some nasty, wet & muddy forest service roads up past 11,000' elevation. I've had them on class 5+ rocky offroad conditions & they did OK. I had them in a blizzard last winter and they got up and down very slick mountain roads others struggled with.

They are very sticky in the rain (yes, it does rain here).

They still have maybe 8-10k miles before I change them this fall.

The ride & road noise is certainly acceptable.

BTW: My neighbor is a search and rescue deputy for the county. I've noticed Revos on his last two work SUVs.

So I find little to complain about, except maybe the price, as they are a premium tire. But you get what you pay for in this case. Do they do everything as well as some tires do one thing? Probably not, but as a general purpose AT I think they're pretty hard to beat.

(Thai: in my book the Micky AT2 is still not well proven yet, unless you can demonstrate otherwise.)

I cannot...but initial testing is encouraging that it is probably one of the top AT tire in terms of performance.

Sorry I forgot about our conversation. Glad to know about the milage though. Not that I'm concerned about that , BUT you almost have to be now a days . The Revos I have were kind of a learning curve a little. I do seem to get good milage and ride quality with them , and as much as I don't like them in some situations I really like them on other's , probably the same with any tire.
 
I've had 2 sets of Revo's on a Mountaineer,ride was good and smooth, the noise level started to up around 20,000 miles. Next set I was very careful to balance every 5,000 miles, same thing. Then I bought my 4R, going with Pirelli ATR's this time.
 
Question to the Revo guys.....how's the noise compared to my stock Dunlops??

I've got 35K on my Dunlops & I'm getting the itch for Revo's!!
