yeah stay away from the flaps (friendly(**cked) local auto store) except for oils,filters, and other little b.s. parts never get any proper components there!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the rotors and calipers? I went with NHT powdercoated rebuilt Calipers and they were flawless, used brembo blanks for the rotors. Just curious what the savings was, it doesn't seem like it was worth it . Sorry you have to go through such problems.

Paid 71.50 for each rotor, 67.50 for each caliper.

I love the drive, man !

I inquired at the dealership of the cost of Tundra 231mm calipers, $700+ something and these are calipers only. I believe if I go with full OEM on my upgrade, it will be worth $1000 to finish the project.

Meantime, I will be sitting in one of those slots and gamble my 20 bucks. If ever I get lucky, I will upgrade my brakes just like yours to 100% Toyota genuine parts and then some ( LOL ):yesyes:.

You have a good point there !

Although I believe this site is for Toyota 3rd generation owners to posts their experiences, issues, successes, suggestions, contributions and so on for others to draw from and probably solve same issue that they currently are facing. I am thankful to have found this site.

I did not post mine to degrade or frustrate RyanSR5. I was contemplating doing Tundra brake upgrade upon reading about it in 4WD Toyota owners magazine. I think it is cool to have that powerful brakes ! However, RyanSR5 posting about his experience tells me that doing the upgrades itself is not as easy as it sounds plus the money involved in doing so. I am not mechanically inclined. I can change pads and rotors though. I do minor stuff to my 4runner. Now if you start talking about master cylinder, weird thumping sound from the passenger side caliper, etc... I will have a hard time dealing with those unless I find a good mechanic to help me out.

By all means, if you want to upgrade yours, go ahead and keep your success posted here. You will never know, I will change my mind if I see that it can be done without dealing with a lot of issues. I like good stuff ( like the Tundra brakes ), but I keep things simple along the way.

By the way, I crashed once but I am still driving. It makes a good point to be careful and not crash again.

RyanSR5, thank you for posting and I am positive you will find the right mix to make all the components work in your brake upgrade. I will keep watch of your postings.

It took me 40 min from start to finish. unbolt everything, Cut some of the dust shield off, Bolt everything back up, and bleed. had no issues at at all. I have the 231mm brakes and i LOVE them. They are so smooth and powerful. Ive had 2 of my friends drive it and its been moved to the top of their mod list.

Good luck with the MC. Im sure you will figure it out. Its so worth it in the end. I got my calipers off a 05 tundra from a junkyard that burned down. $75ea. and i got brand new rotors from toyota along with toyota OEM pads. Everything works great and its all toyota.

Ready for this? Brand new master to replace the crappy WORTHLESS a-1 cardone unit, and I'm now on my 3rd big bottle of synthetic brake fluid. Bench bled the MC and bled all 4 corners for the 4th time. Pressure good but the thumping on the passenger side still there. Replaced the rotor on that side and still there. Thought that the noise might have been comming from the other side so I swapped the rotor to the other side to see if it thumped on the drivers side and it doesn't???? :shrug:It thumps lightly here and there, almost no existent and very faint??? Can anyone explain that one to me? I'm going to call it quits for now. I'm hoping that it has something to do with the pads bedding in and it will fix itself. I need the family wagon back in operation. The family K5 Blazer is fun and all but not too fuel efficient and comfortable.

any rust on the hubs? pull the rotors off and wire brush back to bare steel and if that doesn't work try having the rotor turned on the hub to take out the tolerance build up you may have going on, if there is any run out going on turning the rotos on the hub will sort it out, beyond that the only thing left that it could be is some sort of abs glitch but i see NO reason why it would be that and why it would even cause that sound in the first place,
so yeah if they have had some time to seat and it's still acting funny try turning them on the hub, i just went through this same thing with my brakes took them off and on 4 times and replaced everything, the only thing that worked in the end was having them turned on the hub.

No rust on the hub, but I did hit it with a wire detail brush a little because someone on another forum mentioned that also. You could clearly see the machine marks on the hub so I didn't think that was an issue. If it was untrue from the factory I would have noticed it regardless of the brakes I had on it.

I'm no brake expert,

perhaps check out your pads, if you have non-oem pads which, they may not fit or set properly, sloppy probably would be more accurate to say it.

There's write ups all over the place on different forums and probably this one. For an update, thumping was actually the brake pads?????????? Still need to bleed a little air from somewhere as the pedal isn't as firm as I like but 1000 miles on them and they are working good.
